Questions for Mr D: Should this plan advance, I'd also be shocked if this is less than 500'. Will you really protest over height if you find enough other aspects of the proposal to your liking? Also, you're well aware of the types of facades that Jahn does, and this isn't the Jahn of 1989 any longer. See 600 Fairbanks and 50 West for residential examples. This is not going to be highly recessed, rhythmic shadow play. I know that's what you advocate for on S Michigan but this will not be that. So, what say you? Is that a must-protest scenario? This facade issue troubles me more than height, given your wildly misguided criticism of the spectacularly excellent Spertus addition to the streetwall......

The city's Near South Community Plan calls for buildings between 270 and 425 feet high, or about 20 to 35 stories. But Dennis McLendon, development and planning director of community group South Loop Neighbors, said he would be surprised to see city planning officials hold to that limit.

I just know that Mr. D and his fellow South Loopers better not fuck this thing up

Personally I think that the SL 'framework' plan needs to be burned, never to be seen again. Too many see guidelines and bible and unchangeable.

Jahn on the south michigan street wall is a very intriguing proposition. given the site's "forever" visibility, this might be jahn's last chance to leave a real defining legacy on the city's skyline. a lot of his other work around town is certainly architecturally significant, but you can't look at a postcard shot of the city and pick out a jahn building. this opportunity could change that forever.

haha, i actually like that design, great height too. I find my taste to be very diff from others, I love large bulky buildings. I just hope the height is 500 feet +

Yes, that was certainly a POS. Jahn would never do anything so awful. But, this is what concerns me: I look at that design, and I see in it something that Mr D and perhaps other sloopers very likely thinks 'fits in' better in the Michigan streetwall than, say, I don't know - a Spertus.....which is completely backasswards.........it's just a very outdated 80s-90s, pomoish approach to the issue of context in design - and it needs to accept complete defeat unconditionally - and perish......

This one's now moving......looks like very initial formwork for core going up as of this morning.....all still below-grade, but seems as if the long delay/super-slow track with this one may have now ended.....

My professional life puts me in a position to know what most of those things mean, but I have no earthly idea what a "Makers lab" and "automated package delivery" means for an apartment building.

Maybe it means they're going to stick a 3D printer in a room, not maintain it or keep it supplied with printing material, and then start putting passive aggressive signs all over it when people start breaking it.
