THE 24 urban places included towns with 2,500 residents. Amazing.

I think most people agree that city proper population doesn't mean too much because of the vast differences in the size of cities. For example, Jacksonville, Florida has a population of 853,382 in a whopping 747 sq. mi. Meanwhile, its Florida counterpart Miami has a population of just 430,332 but in a relatively minuscule 35.9 sq. mi. I think most people agree that Miami is Florida's most significant city. The metro population usually balances things out and is a better standard of where a city stands in most cases. That being said, MSA is not perfect, but it's definitely a better indicator. This is part of the reason it's important for Philly to get back Trenton and Mercer County, NJ, as well as places like Reading, PA, in it's metro population count.

That actually lasted through the 1840 census, when I was just a kid--and Southwark was among the 10 biggest cities until the 1830 census, while Spring Garden was one of the 10 biggest in the 1850 census:

Ahhhh, those were the days--before that new-fangled Act of Consolidation in '54. Incidentally, I think I remember you from back then.

The park looks great! That really will be quite a unique--and photogenic--space when FMC is done.

Although I agree, I also wish the parking garage had a prettier clad facing the river.

^^Nice photo.
Does anyone know if the steel section is "topped off" ? (Start of the cement?)

My thinking is that this is the point in construction where the building is about to change shapes. If you look at the renderings from the northern side, it almost looks like FMC is 2 separate towers or parts. The first tower on the northern side goes a bit over half way up and then stops right about the same height where the Steel is now. The southern portion will continue to move up another 300 feet or so. I think there may be an outdoor pool at this ~mid-level as well so I'm not surprised the core hasn't been rising lately and the steel has caught up. Time will tell but it make sense right?

Once the trusses are finished, the 28th level may be poured and then the concrete building from 28 to 49 will kick into gear. Once that system is in play, the building will start moving upward again.

Yes, and I guess I'm making a mountain outta of molehill.(I'm an oldie), but I'm wondering how the core continues upward to accommodate the apartments above? Does the core get smaller and continues on the same core, or is there like a 2 story atrium at this point and the apartment dwellers catch a separate elevator, or do they enter an express elevator? I'm confusing myself...never mind..

The green looks like a great place to have small concerts. I can picture a stage going up on the east side (imagine the backdrop!) and that canted section in the west making a good "lawn seating" area.

Sorry if this was covered before and I missed it: Will this building be connected to the parking garage either above ground or underground? I'm wondering if when people park, do they need to exit the garage to the outside to enter FMC?

What about 30th street station? Do people need to walk outside the two blocks from the train station to FMC? Is there some sort of covered pedestrian walkway at any level?

Thanks guys!
