3km apart would be one of the closest GO stations, I don't think there is one less than 2km apart. Most are more like 5-6 km.

Some subway stops are as much as 2.5km apart as well.

It's not the end of the world if commuters have to transfer, but if your airport is connected, it has to go straight downtown, just like the Canada Line or the UPX.

Who says it does? If Toronto were to ever construct a TTC connection to the airport it would require a transfer. Getting to the island airport requires a transfer.

If I were living in Ottawa I would be happy to learn that the city even has an airport rail ink, not many cities ottawa's size have one, especially in North America.

Would you be happy if said link:
-At peak periods comes only every 10 minutes and requires TWO transfers downtown?
-At midday periods comes only every 10 minutes and requires one transfer downtown
-At evening & weekends comes only every 20 minutes and requires one transfer downtown?

Because that's what's going to happen if the Airport link is funded without money for double tracking the Trillium trunk (which the city is not even trying to pursue which is crazy because Wynne would probably be happy to give the money if the city asked).

I agree that the transfer is not a huge deal, but the complicated arrangement of "at this time the train goes here, but at this other time the train goes there", and the low frequencies are a huge deal.

Thats a better frequency than the Toronto airport rail link except for evenings and weekends.

The only part I don't really like is the 2 transfers during peak periods. All that other stuff is, again, very standard globally, especially in small cities like Ottawa, if they even have a rail link.

The UPX is a premium link, not quite the same as standard rapid transit. If Toronto extended rapid transit to the airport, like say an Eglinton LRT, the frequencies would be better.

Even Vancouver, whose entire rail transit system is sold on and depends on high frequencies, has a low of 20 minute frequencies at YVR.

I'm not entirely sure why this isn't good enough outside of the double transfer. Unless you're aiming for an in-feasibly-frequent train which we can't afford to run i'm not sure what intervals you're actually looking for. I would be totally fine with waiting for 10 minutes. I'd be fine with any train going to the airport.

Yeah, after like 10pm or something like that. At 8 it's every 12 minutes, and all day before that it's every 6.

Every 20min after 11:15pm southbound to YVR, and 11:40pm northbound from YVR.

The truly useable rail lines have direct service to downtown. When you start adding transfers, only the budget minded and brave travellers will use it.

The only cities that I have used rail from the airport offered direct service. That included Portland, San Francisco, and London. I have also used direct bus services in London (going to Windsor) and Soeul.

Trying to deal with transfers in a strange city while handling luggage is one pain in the neck.

I recently had a friend transfer trains and got on a train going the wrong direction.

^ Agreed. Getting to and from the airport to where you are headed is probably the most stressful part of travel. Having a fuss free direct rail route is a god send. Transfers might be ok, but still a pain in the ass, if you are a local but not if you are a tourist.

I love Toronto's rail transit vehicles. They all look great (except for the UPX of course).

The STL in Laval will start building BRT from Montmorency Metro to Carrefour Laval (two of the city's busiest hubs) starting next year, with 12 stations.

Here's the video (in french sorry):
