Just got confirmation on twitter that the lit up giant jets logo will hang from the bottom of the scoreboard and obviously the one your seeing will be stationary.

I would argue that our upper 200s are family friendly for couple games a year. However, we have the best University team, da Bears, in the country who rarely get more than 2/3 full and the Oil Kings who are an exceptional team to watch as well.

Probably not going to happen.

Yes, there are alternatives but it is sad how hockey has priced itself out of the reach of so many Canadians. Both in terms of the cost of putting kids in minor hockey, and in attending NHL games.

No doubt the ACC is a great building and has seen significant dollars and reinvestment over the years

but just for the record Rogers arena has seen 50M in reinvestment since 2006 (10M in this off season) . Not sure about the years prior or what is in the cards for the future

As long as tickets are still being sold the business doesn't care who can or can't go.

I never claimed otherwise. But eventually hockey will lose relevance if kids can't afford to play or ever attend games in person. That will eventually start to cut into the business.

We're starting to see this in Canada's largest cities where basketball and soccer are supplanting hockey's place among kids and teenagers.

From what I deal with in the corporate world, there are a lot less businesses buying seasons tickets to use for their clients, for the Canucks anyway. I used to go to 5-6 games per year and now all those corporate partners have not renewed their tickets in the last 2 years. The average consumers can't pick up the slack and there is less demand and more empty seats

Or do we start seeing more of the Winnpeg/Sanjose model where affiliate Clubs play in the same City/Building as the parent club to cater to those who cant afford NHL' ticket prices

The NHL in particular has never showed anything more than a lukewarm interest in the sports' roots. That's why they let teams in the sport's heartland move away and would have let others move too if the numbers had supported such a decision.

Of all the pro sports I follow hockey is by far the most indifferent to its roots, and you sometimes even get the impression it's a bit ashamed of them and would like to shove them under the carpet and that it only has eyes for the bright lights stateside.

Interesting to see how all of the 90s and 00s-era rinks are getting luxury-flavoured makeovers. The premium areas in particular are starting to look more and more like posh restaurants or private clubs.

Brace yourselves Quebec...This is obviously happening The NHL is clearly just making a scene. They have been so careful about getting anyone's hopes up for 15 years leading up to Winnipeg 2.0 right up to the day the jets were announced. They wouldn't be getting Quebec city hyped for no reason and being so public about it if they weren't sure this was gonna happen. Nordiques 2017. 32 team NHL. Seattle is next up for the yotes or panthers. Congrats in advance QC sorry I ever doubted you

Unless LV and/or QC shit the bed at the last minute, they're both getting teams. It's pretty much anti-climactic. The only threat against QC was the bid competition, but since there was only 2 expansion bids placed - the NHL painted themselves into a corner and it's QC's team to lose at this point.
