I didn't know Pfaffmann was a descendant of Daniel Burnham.

Anyway, with all the work going into that cluster of buildings, it could look really cool by the time they are done. Of course it would be really great if something then happened with the surface parking lot on Grant.

These days I am more seeing a luxury high-rise apartment building. With plenty of units for local politicians' paramours.

Not that it matters at this point, but I wonder what their vision of "tower above" One Oxford Center was. One Oxford was the second or third tallest building in the city in 1983 and is still fifth tallest @ 615 feet according to the SSP Diagrams.

Hopefully things are moving behind the scenes, but from street level nothing has changed. I walked by yesterday.

I don't know the details, but I have heard the Housing Authority is starting to look into redeveloping Allegheny Dwellings and/or Northview Heights into privately-managed mixed-income - analogous to what was done with the old projects in Garfield, East Liberty, and Terrace Village.

Presumably this will also result in a big loss of density of affordable units within the complexes, to make room for new market rate units, even if the overall unit density remains similar. I hope the Housing Authority has learned from the mistakes of the closure of Broadhead Manor, Saint Clair Village, and most of Arlington Heights, or I could see another neighborhood or two being affected.

A firm called Firstsite Development lead by principal David Matesic is building a new 32,000-square-foot building with 80 surface parking spaced called 34th and Carson on a site within the SouthSide Works master plan that neighbors the practice facility of the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the headquarters for Propel Schools.

David Auel and Ed Sauer of Avison Young are kicking off marketing efforts for the new office building, which is under construction based on a design by Lawrenceville-based Desmone Architects.

Auel said the project is expected to cost $5.5 million to build and for the space to be available for tenants in the first quarter of 2016.

Unless I'm wrong, this has been under construction for quite awhile. I know I've seen the building when passing by this stretch of Carson.

Google Maps shows it in progress with an August 2014 date stamp, so I believe you are correct.

Yes... construction is at a rather advanced stage... a bit weird timing for Biz Journals to report on it with a 'future tense' headline.

Boyle, who is co-CEO of the Issue Media Group LLC that publishes Pop City, said the time between now and relaunch will be used to rethink and reinvent the publication.

It has been being excavated for a couple months, didn't see any signs or anything.

I'm assuming it is something for the car dealership there.

Unfortunately, I think that side of Liberty is pretty much doomed, given the street is a "car sewer" below the Bloomfield Bridge and awful from a pedestrian experience. You could do everything absolutely correct on infill from an urban planning perspective, and people still wouldn't want to cross Liberty (or the Bloomfield Bridge's intersection) on foot to explore there.

I agree Gene. I have always been a fan but there are rarely any comments or discussion. That's always disappointed me.

Pop City when it first came out was one of my favorite sources for things it seemed no one else was talking about.

At some point, though, I started getting the feeling that in forums like this, we had already been discussing everything before it showed up there.

So maybe that sort of information is just being spread too fast for a weekly these days.
