Tuttle Bros Funeral home down on Lutz St. was sold last year to Vision Realty, and it looks like they are possibly renovating it into apartments possibly... Not sure if anyone would want to live in a building that was once used as a Funeral Home tho...

You could use the crematorium as the building's barbecue. Except they removed that with a giant crane earlier this week.

I was going to ask if that was not what was being held by a crane high up over the building I think...

Yes sir. I'm told it is going to be reinstalled at a funeral parlous on Coverdale Rd. However, I don't know that first hand so I can't vouch for the information.

Anyone know what's going on the lot besides the Moncton Residence on John street? Drove by today and there's a lot of activity going on there.

I read this morning that the office vacancy rate in Moncton stands at 8.4%. Does anybody have any idea how this compares to last year?

Moncton office vacancy rate:
https://www.turnerdrake.com/survey/attachments/149.pdf

2013 - 7.0%
2014 - 7.9%
2015 - 8.4%

Going in the wrong direction.

On the bright side however, we have the lowest office vacancy rate in the Maritimes and the 2nd lowest in Atlantic Canada.

St. John's (NL) - 4.9%
Moncton (NB) - 8.4%
Fredericton (NB) - 9.6%
Halifax (NS) - 14.0%
Saint John (NB) - 20.6%

I was hoping it was improved from last year. So what am I missing? I would think that if office space is not getting built in Moncton and we are growing by a few thousand people per year, how does it get worse?

That's likely the Moncton Residence "phase 2".

Phase one was a two storey building built in the shape of an "x". Phase two consists of two four storey buildings interconnected with each other (and with phase one) by an enclosed walkway.

The next image shows phase two "in outline" with relation to the existing phase one. Note that there is also a "phase three" in the distant background.

There may not be any shiny new office towers being built in the downtown, but there have been some smaller projects in the periphery and also some office conversions (e.g. the conversion of some retail space in the Superstore Mall to the new CBC/Radio Canada production facilities). This will have increased supply a bit and probably explains the (marginal) increase in the office vacancy rate.

There's a drill in the circled area this morning. Would they be taking core samples?

I would assume core samples for an environmental check of the land.

I see that there is a new tenant moving into the old Relish location on Main street next to Bubba Rays.......

Mama's Restaurant appears set to open sometime soon. Nothing special (it appears to be a pizza and souvlaki place), so I presume it's designed to appeal to the bar crowd.

Glad something is opening at that spot... To many empty spots on Main St...

Pisces has been there forever...guessing the high price wasn't attracting people in that location. Would be a good spot for a fish and chips place though.

At the crazy property tax rates and weather reliant, sporadic business on Main, I'm surprised more haven't shut down.

Doesn't help when the city takes Canada day celebration events down to the waterfront where the food trucks glide in for a few hours and reap big sales where you have the big tax payers on Main getting half of their sales taken away.

Sound fair???

A Jack Astor's Bar & Grill with a large open deck in the back connecting to the riverfront trail would be nice as well!!!

I think one of the problems with Pisces was, lack of excitement and a very bland facade. They should have opened the window blinds at let us know they were open for business.

Given their location, I was always surprised that they didn't have a large patio opening onto the riverfront boardwalk too. This was a tremendous oversight.....

I believe some of you are leaping with both feet to conclusions about Pisces.
Chef Gaston has been doing this for almost 50 years. I do believe he's simply going to take life a bit slower. He's keeping the catering thing going but leaving the restaurant biz.\
I've gone to Pisces at least once a year - on your birthday you eat free all week! (with purchase of a meal of equal or more value.) And every time it's been there it's been relatively busy.
I' m sorry to see it go, but doubt that it's closure has anything to do with financial reasons.
