Bingo... AND it is not trying to be faux historic.

Ya, I don't understand why it's getting so much praise here. It's decent but forgettable.

Context is important, it is another good step forward for Edmonton and significant height. Sorry we are not Toronto or Van.

The fact that it isn't some Tuscan themed stucco box is reason for celebration in Edmonton.

The fact that it could be suitable in any major city in Canada is a major step forward.

Calgary used to be in the same boat for residential high rises. There have been a few bad ones through the 2000's but overall the bar has risen. Unfortunately you still get projects like Vogue (or anything by Lacaille group) but by and large the terrain has shifted and design has become much more important. What Calgary really needs is less twins.

I remember once upon a time we thought Lacaille projects were the bees-knees. Or at least really tall and therefore really good.

Lol! Yeah they used to blend in more with the rest of the pack here but since all the new developments are actually contemporary design (vs late 90's/early 00's Pomo) Lacaille has been relegated to the level of POV (now Carlisle Group).

They have a ton in development right now. Can't build it all. Wonder which ones they'll develop first. The BIG was also rumoured to be on the east side of the Entertainment District. They have one or two more sites there.

A few new renderings for Halifax projects (from the design review committee page - https://www.halifax.ca/boardscom/DesignReviewCommittee-HRM.php):

The first two are fairly small but they're good examples of the many mid-scale buildings that have been going up in the urban core there over the past few years. The city already feels a lot "meatier" than it used to. There are a lot of areas dominated by medium-scale buildings that in the past were a patchwork of 2-3 storey buildings and parking lots.

Green Lantern expansion, Barrington Street

St. David's Hall

YMCA redevelopment

Couple boring new projects:

Major development at the Loblaws site at Bathurst & Lakeshore in Toronto. The old art deco building will be restored and house a new supermarket and will utilize the space under the Gardiner for retail & art, while a pair of unremarkable 41 and 37 storey Concord residential towers will be built beside it.

328 Dupont, 15 and 29 storeys.

Damn, how Did Concord Pacific manage to get in on this development? Yet another block or their sub par boring blue green glass condos. At least the warehouse will finally be restored and not just sit there until it collapses or a suspicious fire destroys it.

Oh and Someone123 that St. David's Hall proposal is terrible.

I know what you mean, but I love how 40-floor towers can nowadays be unremarkable in some Canadian cities.

Plus if it fits together like Vancouver's buildings then what's not to like? It's better when a city works together.

I thought there was to be an office tower component to the project? Is that office above the old warehouse?

More glass garbage. I never thought these spandrel-fest balcony wrapped buildings suited Toronto.

If you're going to build on a budget, at least do something similar to Treviso condos up at Dufferin and Lawrence.

Ya, I don't like the St.David's proposal either.

The Toronto proposal is decent. The tall building look like they have some architectural merit and most of all it looks like they are really going to respect the old warehouse in it's entirety giving the development both character and warmth.

A new proposal in Vancouver near the Cambie Street bridge, not too far from the new casino/hotel. This one is called "Arc"

Haven't seen these before, not sure if these have been posted.
234 Simcoe, Toronto.

88 Queen East/30 Mutual, Toronto.

Found these here: http://issuu.com/hariripontariniarchitects/docs/hpa-commercial_residential_portfoli

With these amazing proposals shown on the website HP is probably my favourite architectural firm right now.

Check out the website there is a lot of great proposals around Canada, some I've never seen before, in the magazine at the top of the page.
