In actual ugly building related stuff.....

This house is repulsive. Check out the other side of the street as well to see the context of the area it's in. There are condo high rises and new in fills going up all around it, yet this ramshackle turd remains. It occupies the first corner you see after crossing over Crowchild Tr. on 17th ave. it's something you'd expect to see in a small 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 hamlet in the middle of nowhere.

It's just a house. The same sort of house that is all over Calgary. The only thing that's even a little objectionable about it is the chain link.

Compared to the abject hideousness in Montreal, this is really a stretch, like most of your efforts to point out how "ugly" Calgary is. We have lots and lots of drab, but we just don't have that sort of ugly.

I think the drabness of some parts of Calgary, much like edmonton, appears much more ugly because of how boring and soul sucking it is. On the other hand, you have these weird buildings in Montreal whose ugliness is lessened because they're surrounded by other buildings in an urban setting.

Meanwhile, most of this thread is devoted ugly suburban developments because the context of where they're located makes it feel even worse to look at. This little Calgary house doesn't look like it's nearing the city limits but when you peruse over the immediate surroundings, it's still pretty drab other than the one condo.

Laval's CBD next to Carrefour Laval isn't that bad. It's just your typical suburban business district...

I don't think you get this thread or my posts Rusty. I don't try and say how ugly Calgary is. I post particular buildings or groups of buildings that offend my aesthetic sensibilities. I'm not condemning the city as a whole. No need to be so defensive. Even great cities have ugly architecture. You're correct that Montreal has much worse than the one house I posted. Hence the montage of the Laval clocktower the previous 10 pages. That's why it's the 'Ugly Canada' thread.

And I don't care what you say, that house is an eyesore every time I see it. It's more than the chain link fence too. Not a stitch of landscaping in that dirt patch of a yard. Terrible interface with the street. Poo brown paint that is chipping and peeling. And to top it all it's right across the street from a nice new high rise and looks like it belongs in Strathmore. Is there worse? Sure. But it's still ugly and I happened to see it again today on my way to get my haircut. Thought I'd break up the clock tower montage by sharing it.

Chill out.

Exactly what I think.
It's a bit generic and heavily car-oriented, but the buildings are not too bad and it's without a doubt the best (... least worst?) and oldest cluster in downtown Laval (around 1990).
Still hoping for the metro to be extended that far in the future. That would be huge.

^ I've always considered this area, since I was a kid, as the REAL downtown of Laval.
... Not sure if true, because Laval's downtown is a little bit everywhere on both side of A15, especially now, wich is anything but compact lol

The street view is less horrible than in real life in part due to the election signs. they manage to conceal the dirt patch of brown lawn and the truly barren feeling of the place.

I still think Laval steals the spotlight too much from the Venetian in the Chuck.

You can even buy this beautiful pano on gigapan.org! Who wouldn't want to decorate their walls with this beauty?!?

It can easily be fixed with the addition of a moat and draw bridge connecting to the front door.

It is amazing what moats or clock towns can do to ugly building. Add both to this one and you have a magical creation.

One of the ugliest things about contemporary Canada is the shite they play on the radio. Yeah, so who listens to the radio? Not me, not much at all, but it is there in the background at the mall, the stores, the restaurants.

And a lot of it is either pure unadulterated shite like Nickelback, or just as bad, "New Country" music. My question is this: How could anybody actually like New Country? It's the lowest of the low.

When I used to drive, I listened to the radio when driving. Only ever listened to indie/alt type stations (go to stations were Live 88.5 in Ottawa and 98.9 The Drive in Kingston). Since I stopped driving, I never listen to radio.

Looks somewhat like Ottawa's Corel Building. Thankfully, it's in a business park a few kilometers west of downtown.

That is the most horrid looking thing I have ever seen made worse by the fact that they have the nerve of trying to compare it to Venice. Where is this offensive thing located?
