Looks a bit glassy for my taste in the render, but that's totally subjective. I do worry they might spandrel some of those bits though. Ottawa's had it happen a couple times.

That's a nice looking building and great news for downtown Edmonton.

As a side note.......I thought Edmonton already had an Encore?

I like the Encore proposal... very nice looking tower. Not crazy about the mismatched base, but I guess this has somehow become part of the Edmonton vernacular... perhaps much like "Vancouverism", this is Edmonton's contribution to the architectural world. (Edmontonism??)

For me that is the best part of this building. If you want to attract the right mix of retail, you gotta have attractive retail suites. Looks like they've done that here.

Same one, new render, some changes to design. Looks excellent. Will get some update photos of Edmonton when I'm there next weekend.

Than again, it a tower plopped down (repeat , plopped down) on a low, mismatched podium. I have reservations on the tower too. It's very slim with a heavily articulated side and another that is sheer wall of glass. It comes across a little lobsided. Overall, it's not a bad design but, lacks refinement. Hopefully, it doesn't take its cues from Ultima winow wall either.

Basically it looks like a cross between a G+C & Burka project: aka vomit.

I think even those two would do a better job transitioning between podium and tower. Unfortunately, it's not uniquely Edmonton either.

Mismatching towers and podiums are a good thing. You get the best of both worlds, human scale development and high-rises.

Not even sure it's all that much of a mismatch. The tower itself is all expressionless clear glass. You could pretty much plop it down on any podium and it wouldn't look too offensive.
