Further to your comment. Yes, a more modern casino is being built just to the left (west) of that old casino and will be connected to the winter garden and the arena.

The new casino will be attached to the arena. The old one is being demolished thank god.

Edmonton Arena photos - Interesting how they have framed in an area on the second floor casino area that almost looks like a spot for a pedway. However, no pedway is being contemplated at that spot.

^ Noticed that too; nothing on the render gives it away either. Could be in case they want a pedway directly to the hotel later, or they might just be keeping it open for ease of moving materials in and out during construction.

They were hoisting Escalators through there a week or so ago.
Also as a side note we are not calling the hotel site the delta hotel now, just the Hotel.

Tusla oiler's of the echl announcement affiliation with the jets today. They play at the bok center. How bad is it that your 3rd string team has a bigger and arguably bigger arena than the main and secondary team lol Nothing against MTS It's my favorite NHL building I just think it's funny that they play in a better arena.

We've gone through nearly every NHL arena, operational, u/c or pending except for Rogers in Vancouver. How does it stack up?

It's at the top of almost any arena ranking article. Honestly Vancouver built a great arena. But it needs an update badly. those stairs are just...

and the red seat's don't look good either. But it was built right. big, expandable and the outside was pretty meh, but it now has condos attached to it so you barley even see the place. IMO the best arena in Canada aside from videotron and soon to be rogers place

I don't see it as being "bad" for anyone except maybe the people of Tulsa who built an expensive, top-level venue for ECHL hockey, of all things, the WNBA, and other such low-profile stuff.

BOK Center would probably be a top 5 NHL arena in today's league... it looks like an exceptional facility.

Its easy to pick on the BOK Center and Tulsa but the arena did not cost that much ($178 million) and I believe the whole plan was signed off by the taxpayers. They have a good manager of the arena in SMG whom after AEG will get you lots and lots of events. The arena calendar gets some good events and many that would warrant some tourist traffic into town such as NCAA basketball tournament games.

It is probably getting more event dates then some of our own Canadian rinks. Just something to think about....

Once again, great improvement to an older rink. The redeveloped corner should be ready for the 2015-2016 season I assume? It would be pretty cool if they could build an even bigger plaza over Expo Boulevard somehow.

Ottawa's plausible future arena could be built in a somewhat similar location, with parallel elevated rapid transit line (Confederation Line by 2018 on the right) and roadway (left). We also have the Trillium line in the ditch underneath.

Now that it's a virtual certainty that the Viaducts will be demolished, it'll be interesting to see the impact on Rogers Arena. Some of the entrances are designed to be accessed from the Viaduct sidewalks, so what happens to those in the future? Will 'stand alone' walkways be retained to link the end of Georgia Street to that set of entrances?

I really don't know much about Rogers arena ive never been in it. I've walked around when I went to the grey cup But that big condo investment has got to solidify the fact that these 1990's buildings are here to stay for decades to come. When 100's of millions of dollars are invested into arena surroundings like maple leaf square and true north square and what were seeing in Vancouver now bthat has to show a commitment that a new building isnt even on the radar

Rogers arena has a few nice features, but nothing about it screams, "one of the best arenas in Canada." COngested concourses and total square footage of 475,000 ultimately means the arena has less square footage per person than the MTS Centre and the exterior might be the most bland of the Canadian NHL rinks. Nice scoreboard and 400 level though.

You'd rank Rogers Place ahead of the Bell Centre, ACC and Scotiabank Place? I've always found it to be the most bland and dumpy looking of the newer arenas. Location wise obviously it tops Scotiabank Place but the arena itself I'm not seeing it. ACC and Bell Centre seem like they are on a different level in just about every way. The biggest knock the ACC always gets in rankings is that it is so pricey but that isn't a fault of the structure itself.

I've never heard anything about congestion at Rogers arena (not saying you're wrong). I've heard it has some great sightliness and acoustics. And honestly it use to top the rankings in pro sports arenas. Maybe not so much any more? I think every pro arena in Canada could use an overhaul. And I can only imagine the rink envy Rogers place and Videotron is going to spark in this country, Already you're seeing it in Montreal and Calgary. But Im talking 100Million renovations. almost gut the place and start over like MSG. New seats,new sound, new screens, new concourses New facade new, Everything. Now I realise MSG was more like a half billion but the building itself is 40 years older then the ones in Canada that im referring too. The basic design of Mtsc, rogers arena, Bell centre, ACC and canadian tire centre is fine they just need to be brought up to today's design and finishes.

The ACC gets dumped on for just about everything but its location. Its cramped the design is terrible the sight lines aren't great (in every seat ive sat in). Anyone that works in hockey media will tell you the ACC is about the worst designed building in the league. I feel like you might be biased because you live in Ontario. And the leafs are the best thing on god's green earth and so is everything that comes with them even the Frankenstein half basketball half hockey specific designed arena they play in is "in a league of it's own" and your comparing it to Rogers arena which has same design without the apartment style cooperate boxes in the end. Yet rogers arena is terrible and ACC is the best. The most profitable NHL team in the eague plays in an arena designed for basketball It's not the worst arena out there but It's not "on another level"

The bell centre is about the same its a a 22,000 seats crammed into a 19,000 seat building

Never heard a bad thing about CTC but it's location.

Even rexall for all it lacks is a great building. Not one bad seat in the house. Best ice in the league. The acoustics are unbelievable Nowhere but MTSC comes close to the sound that Rexall produces. In a hockey game you can hear the players talking and in a concert it's clear as day. Concourses are a bit tight but lots of bathrooms lots of food options. and even the scoreboard for being over 14 years old is not terrible. Im gonna miss the place and it should still have a place when mentioning Canada's top Arenas
