Regarding 101 N Broad, I have a feeling this is just emergency facade stabilization to keep masonry from crashing 20 stories on to pedestrians' heads. I have so little faith in Realen's interest in doing anything that would actually involve doing any good for the city.

Well realen is developing a big project in manayunk right now

They got their money from the state. There have been numerous reports that its moving forward as an Aloft hotel. They wouldn't be doing this sort of facade restoration to let the building sit there empty.

Facade stabilization occurs frequently to vacant buildings in high traffic areas if there is a threat that masonry will fall on people, whether or not development is slated.

I'm not saying that is definitely what's going on here; I hope you are right, but I am skeptical given Realen's history in Center City, especially given they haven't made an announcement as far as I know.

protective barrier and support scaffolding has been up for months, if not years on that site. Public was in no danger. The permit for the facade restoration was initially issued several years ago. The fact that its proceeding after getting the state grant and after numerous articles have mentioned the project and/or showed renderings of the building as Aloft suggests that its moving forward.

Fingers crossed. It's a great building.

I think Palomar and Hotel Monaco did not have subsidies. Anybody know?

Did the Study get a subsidy? Can't remember.

This has probably been posted before, but I thought it would be worth another look. The video must be pretty recent (July 21), as you can see FMC under construction with a decent amount of core and steel built! At marker 1:25 you can get a good view of FMC.

Teams were working on the top floors of the western facade today where the scaffolding is. Looked like it could have been cleaning, sandblasting, repointing, possibly something else altogether. About five guys up there. Will check again tomorrow to see what's going on.

This is Comcast’s seventh consecutive year on the Hall of Shame, and its first year at the top.

Lack of regional competition for many cable TV providers is likely a primary reason for their low customer service ratings across the industry. Without alternatives to choose from, customers are forced to pay high rates for service that does not improve. This problem was nearly exacerbated earlier this year when Comcast attempted to merge with the nation’s next biggest cable TV provider, Time Warner Cable. However, the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission effectively killed the merger on antitrust concerns.

In the face of its poor customer service reputation, Comcast may be attempting to turn things around. Catering to consumer trends, Comcast announced earlier this month the launch of its own cable streaming service called Stream. Stream will compete with companies such as Netflix and Hulu and allow Comcast customers to stream television shows on their TVs and mobile devices.

It does remind me that when that project was announced so many commentors on news sites were mad and talking about their comcast bills and project cost. Those haterz..
