Depends on who pays to build the stadium or whether it will be 80k permanent seats or if Toronto could even win or have full support for an Olympic bid.

Hopefully high speed rail could be in place by this time in Ontario if Toronto got the bid and some events could be spread around the province instead of GTA for everything.

Argos are already knocking deaths door, but the NFL wouldn't kill them. Different price points and different market. The Argos are flopping because they are inept in catering to their core base of fans in Etobicoke and the suburbs, but that is another thing all together.

A lot of other things have to change to make the NFL work here such as Ontario's Puritan drinking laws which ban tailgating.

Its only 10 days a year. There are 60k suckers who would have no problem shelling out the dough to see it. It us a stretch but it has more reality the NFLs goofy plans for London.

Luongo, Campbell, Vermette (until Chicago). Jovanovski back in the day. Fisher would count but the whole Underwood thing helps, too. From people I know in the industry they love Nashville because it's the perfect combo of an annually competitive team mixed with no local taxes.

Bidding doesnt mean winning. Theres some strong candidates running. Although all those you listrd may be possible if they do win.

Lines up well for an 80k world cup stadium for the 2026 bid.

Toronto doesn't need an 80,000 seat stadium. And just because they build one doesn't mean they will get an NFL franchise. Toronto will never see an NFL franchise before LA....EVER.. God I hope They dont win this bid. Yet another big ugly tenant less stadium with a nasty running track around it in this country. If its a 40,000 seat stadium expandable to 80,000 and can be set up to cater both the CFL and MLS (playoffs) than yes I can see Toronto building this and utilizing it for the Argos and possibly a world cup bid. But this country does not need another one of these useless Stadiums. They are great for the Olympics but serve no purpose in society post games. Has the big O taught us nothing? if not refer to london olympic stadium. Same crap. 100M+ dollar renovation 3 years after it was built to serve as a half ass soccer stadium with 4x the needed capacity

A lot has to happen before Toronto even bids on the Olympics, never mind winning the bid. I'd be a little more impressed with this notion if it wasn't coming immediately after the Pan Ams, while still in the afterglow, so to speak.

As for the NFL in Toronto.......LA (maybe 2 teams), London, probably a couple of other US cities are in line before Toronto.

London won't be getting a team. That was just an attempt to grow the game in Europe without actually giving them a team - while at the same time allowing Jacksonville to make some money by placing games there 4 times so far.

And outside of LA, there aren't really any untapped markets left in the US to throw NFL teams in.

I disagree. London is an untapped market for American football and, despite the travel difficulties, a team there would raise the NFL's profile throughout Europe as well as Britain. They're more likely a target for expansion than Toronto.

As for untapped markets in the US, while Toronto may be larger than any other than LA, The NFL is likely to locate in markets such as Sacramento, San Antonio, Portland or Even Memphis or Birmingham than it is to take on a foreign city where it already has media saturation and which has shown little enthusiasm for NFL games when it had the opportunity to do so, to say nothing of the problems of finding a someone to pay the $1B+ (US, mind you, not our northern pesos; and probably substantially more, since the NHL is asking $500m) franchise fee. Most likely, however, there will be no expansion at all, and the NFL will continue to hold existing cities to ransom by the threat of moving to Toronto or elsewhere.

Anyway, I suspect it will all be academic. Once the excitement from the PanAms dies down, there will likely be little appetite for an Olympic bid.

If an NHL expansion team is 500M, chances are an NFL expansion team will be a lot more than 1B by the team it starts getting looked at seriously in a few years.

One of the things that the IOC praised about the 2008 bid was that the games would have been so compact. As many events as possible were to be held at the Ex, Union Station/Rogers Centre area, and the Port Lands. Spreading the events around the GTA and beyond may give each municipality a piece of the pie, but it doesn't make for a very efficient games and makes for a lot of unnecessary travel. Of course, even in 2008 some of the events would have been far from the city, but that's because those were the best locations for those events, not just for the sake of spreading things out.

Why do people always link the Olympics with an NFL team? People are forgetting that the proposed 2008 stadium would have had largely temporary seating. Kind of like what happened with the stadium in Atlanta. IIRC, the permanent seating was only going to be in the 35,000 range. There's no reason that a 2024 bid couldn't do the same. A government funded 80,000 seat stadium for a hypothetical NFL team would be a white elephant, especially considering that the NFL has no interest in Toronto.

And in the end the IOC said screw it to the best bid and gave it to China. So really the best bid doesn't even win most of the time. It's whatever is in the best interest of the IOC. I say spread the games around the GTA. Share the costs among municipalities, build up the transportation network.

The Provicne had to padner the Pan-Am games because they were eating most of the costs. This whole idea of throwing venues and events around just because is nusts as the Olympics has a much more massive footprint with real people who come to visit and does not need to be made even more complicated with venues spread around from Milton to Ajax.

A Olympics would be shoulderd with a much larger percentage Federally and so the Province won't have to pander as much to justify the spending.

Toronto just does not have that much empty land tp build sporting zones. It won't be downtown and Ex Place is the obvious choise for a smaller one.

I am pro Olympic games only because it is the only way Toronto will get the Feds to invest in the city as it likes to neglect it. Major infrasturture projects such as the Gardiner issue, real connections to Pearson, and Downtown Reilier Line (full) would be adressed with an Olympic bid.

Regardless the Olympics will have to spread out.

They aren't going to build a second veledrome in Toronto because Milton is too far. Theres only two veledromes in ALL of North America, nevermind 2 in the GTA.

Rowing is going to be held in St. Catharines as its course is world renowned and has been there for 75 years. You can't just plop a rowing course anywhere, there needs to be propper current for it.

Soccer is going to need at least 4 venues so Hamilton comes back online for that. (Rio is using 5 venues in 5 different cities spread much further apart than the GTA)

Odds are Copps Colliseum will be used, as well as the Hershey Centre and GM Centre. They aren't going to build new arenas in Toronto that become white elephants just for the sake of fans not having to travel far.

Rio's events are spread over 4 different clusters.

Having said that, the majority of the games would still be held in Toronto propper.

You can bet the pronvice and the feds are going to use this to push High speed rail in Southern Ontario, as well as Electrification of the GO lines thats already supposed to be completed within the decade adding 15 minute off peak trains. This will make it eaiser and efficient for people to get to various events. As well as the much talked about LRT and subway expansion in Toronto.
