I guess the NYC area skyscraper geeks have become the land of the kool-aid drinkers now. Are you all blind? What a disgrace and insult.

This is beautiful. Open your eyes. (that BIG monstrosity is oy vey!).

You do NOT mess with the Lord Foster.

Good lord... When are people going to learn that just because a bunch of people disagree with you, does not mean they are, "kool-aid" drinkers? In fact, that may imply the reverse. No one is implying this is a perfect tower, but it's quite impressive and should be a quality product in one of the most impressive places around.

Maybe try not to be so overly dramatic when people disagree with you, and we might take you more seriously.

NYC has a few Foster designs now, and frankly they're all pretty mediocre. Even Hearst Tower looks unfinished. The structural design is its one trick, that's it.

I'm willing to give BIG a chance on this site.

I'll never like BIG's design as much as I did Foster's, but it's kinda growing on me, it is a bit of a shame but if they really follow through with the rooftop gardens and they give it a quality facade, it could look great.

You make a cogent point.

What, besides the diamond shaped top gimmick, is so special about Foster's 2 WTC design? It looks like someone sliced through one of the old Twins. The North view was never special; say what you will of the new design's north view, but at least it's interesting.

I would think all the people that kept asking for the Twins back all these years would be ecstatic. They're getting two towers (1 and 2 WTC) that replicate the old height, and will look remarkably reminiscent of the Twins from certain angles. AND two additional super (or very near super) talls to join the ensemble.

Trees are always a good thing when it comes to big cities, New York really could use more trees along their streets in general, that's why I love the memorial so much.

I would so trade in a beautiful tree lined boulevard like Champ-Elysees over Times Square. Can you imagine how beautiful that would look in NY?

Could you imagine how wild people in second tier cities like Chicago, LA, Atlanta, Dallas, etc., Would be going if this 1,340' tower were proposed there?

NY is simply unparalleled.

NY has more steets with dense mature trees than any city in the US? Have you ever walked the streets of the UES, the UWS, or the Village?

Like JR mentioned, walk those neighborhoods to see plenty of trees. Also, walk most of Queens, and Brooklyn to see too many streets lined with trees. Often, these trees are very mature, and have been there for decades. UES, UWS, Village, Hells Kitchen, Park Ave, West/East Side Highway, DoBro, Astoria, Flushing, and so on. NYC is also the greenest U.S. city.

Don't forget the million trees campaign that Bloomberg started. Added a lot more foliage to the streets, and also improved many parks/plazas. While its no Atlanta in terms of its tree coverage, its up there when it comes to being green.

I'd argue that the diamond-shaped gimmick is not even special, and not worthy of the site. It's a retread of the Crain Communications building in Chicago. At least BIG's tower looks more suitable for NYC, even though the stacked-box design is a bit of a latest fad, too.

There is plenty of trees, that are not in parks.

Typical beautiful side streets in NYC.

Beautiful Park Avenue

Wow... People have a different opinion than you, so naturally you have to insult their intelligence and compare them with members of a suicidal cult. If that's how you conduct yourself offline as well, then I'm sure you must be a real joy to be around.

I never said NY didn't have any trees.

I was more comparing it to a city like Paris. Hence the CE comparison, but I guess you were just itching to use that gif.

That being said, NYC still has tree cover that is at best average for major US cities. I don't see why that would be a bad thing though, trees get in the way a lot when they are in the middle of busy sidewalks and overhanging streets.

Kind of a douche thing to say. Don't you think? Your arrogance is nauseating. Also, are you almost done with the Ramses routine? It was cute for a minute but completely worn out at this point.

What city has streets with dense, tall old trees in urbanized areas like that? I haven't seen a single one, and I have been to every major US city except Houston.

Sorry if you're offended by NY's utter dominance. Its superiority and confidence enables non-New Yorkers to make pejorative posts about it on this site. Try knocking Chicago, Atl., Miami or Charlotte and see how imminently you're suspended.
