Sorry, I just don't see it. This design does a far better job of blending in with the airport; for instance, the glass actually matches, which is something that was important IMO. The orginal design didn't even consider the airport asides from the soaring wing motif.
Calatrava's was another over-budget, unrealistic, starchitect, pos. Even this one is excessive for what it needed to do: a) house guests and b) take a blast from a bomber coming in via train. The old Westin design from the early 90's was probably the best one for an airport hotel.
