That's an integral component of BIG's plan. Each of the 7 cubes is meant to resemble a ''small'' TriBeCa building with a rooftop garden.

This is fantastic and provides several observation decks along the way up.
I highly doubt that the general public will have access to those decks, but that's a very nice feature to attract tenants for long term leases.

Now I understand why the redesign had to happen.

The public won't have access to those gardens. They're an amenity fir tenants. You should examine the images if them. Many are multi -levels with stairs, Ramps, etc

My experiences enjoying the public spaces of Trump Tower Fifth Avenue are very positive, offering distinctive views!

I don't blame the developers for restricting access as an exclusive amenity!

I can relax a bit, now that I can see the facade details. Looks like it should be very high quality glass.

slowly, the design is growing on me. However, my opinion of 3 WTC has lessened further with those perspectives. It NEEDS the spires.

Honestly I'm not a fan of Bjarke Ingels, but that video had me thinking this might be one of the coolest towers in the world. Could have been the music... I'm a sucker for Arthur C. Clarke, Kubrick and John Strauss.

Don't know why you haven't noticed it before either, but you really should watch the video.

Nothing really new to New York (just not this high)...the setbacks of Rockefeller Center are probably the most commonly known...

Rockefeller Center roof top gardens

Most New Yorkers have either stopped by or been inside of Rockefeller Center, but how many of us know about the rooftop gardens? And how many people visited them?

The gardens on Rockefeller Center's building rooftops were part of architect Raymond Hood's original 1930 scheme. There were the plans to have gardens on the roofs
of all buildings and also the plans for connecting bridges between the rooftops. But it was difficult time and roof top gardens only were included only on four buildings.

I love the cantilevers on the north facade and the leaning tower look that they yield. This reminds me of a gigantic version of the amazing 25 story building that HdM proposed for 22nd St. before the Crash.

New 2 World Trade Center Design Wins Praise From Community

Quote:
Bjarke Ingels Group's recently unveiled plan for 2 World Trade Center has been the subject of both praise ("Cool, build it!") and criticism ("Meh"), but none of that matters now that the stacked-box design has won the highest honors some more praise from its neighbors in Manhattan Community Board 1. Although the design was first unveiled by Wired in the beginning of June, the peoples' committee was presented the plan on July 13, says Downtown Express, which they reacted to with applause. Although community board input is only advisory, the accepted design is still a major triumph and the last piece of the World Trade Center puzzle.

The plan was presented by a Silverstein spokesperson who said the building grew out of a request by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. to Bjarke Ingels Group to design a structure that would have large enough floorplates for studios and news rooms and also foster interconnectivity between departments and employees. 21st Century Fox and News Corp. weren't always bound for the World Trade Center campus—and they still aren't necessarily now; they've only signed a letter of intent—but out of the 11 sites BIG was eyeing throughout Manhattan, 2 World Trade Center's worked best. "At the end, somehow there was a site available and the foundations [were] already in place," at 2 World Trade Center, the spokesperson said. Although those foundations may sound convenient, construction of the 1,340-foot tower will actually be very tricky.

The tower is expected in 2020, the same year 21st Century Fox and News Corp.'s lease expires on their Sixth Avenue office space. While New Yorkers await its rise, they can familiarize themselves with how it'll affect the skyline throughout the city with this handy visualization published by the New York Times.
