I went to the 51st Street Improvement Project meeting last night and got some good information on the project's progress from some folks from the City, Catellus and McCann-Adams. They have finished the Preliminary Engineering Report which has a lot of really good ideas.
Here is a summary of that report.
I especially like that there will be separated cycle tracks the whole length of 51st between I-35 and Berkman, along with the Dutch-style intersection treatments at major intersections. An engineer from the Public Works Department did mention, however, that the plan as envisioned will cost about twice as much as they currently have set aside from the 2012 Bond. So not all of this will get built at once.
I also rode my bike around Mueller afterwards to see some of the progress.
Berkman has been paved!
Cycletracks being installed on Berkman:
I sometimes forget how high the elevation of Mueller is relative to downtown:
And my personal favorite, the Food Forrest along Manor Road. Looks like there is some citrus already growing on those trees...
