Some details about Mclaughlin Place were revealed in an Acadie Nouvelle article posted here:

http://www.acadienouvelle.com/actualites...a-moncton-debuts-des-travaux-en-octobre/

According to the President of Seville Property Group, Brian Steeves, construction is set to begin this October even without any signed agreements with tenants.

Also, some modifications to the proposed restaurant/drive-thru in the original plan were made to conserve the centennial tree located on the property.

Another interesting tidbit taken from the article is the proposed phase 2 scheduled for construction in 2 years that includes an apartment building.

Thanks for the link.

Glad to see they will be starting construction in October, no matter what.

I wonder who the nearly-committed commercial tenants are?

The article in Acadie Nouvelle included a better render of the project than my screen capture from the city council broadcast.

Phase two of the development will be the apartment buildings in the background. Construction of these buildings will be in a couple of years time.

The 2 buildings in yellowish are already there I know but I think the building right behind it is there as well... Only the 2 buildings that are the furthest from the street will be built in a few years...

Just my two cents on the subject...

Yes, you are correct. I didn't make that clear in my post.

That's a lot of rental units and an even bigger development footprint. The area will end up looking like Carson drive. A few highrises would have been nice in this area... too bad.

This will be a much needed change in that corner I would see that a restaurant like the Igloo could move there to be closer to the U of M Campus. And could see another Second Cup location there and many professional businesses there. Also with the eventual construction project near at the U of M campus with a hotel and conference facility will be great.

I think the proposed Shannex retirement home project on the north side of Morton on UdeM lands is pretty much a go. I'm not so sure about the current status of the proposed hotel/conference centre next door. I kinda think thats just on UdeM's wish list for their endowment lands, but I stand to be corrected.

Regardless, that section of Morton is going to see tremendous change in the next five years or so........

The reasoning from my understanding is because it's near the university they almost have guaranteed tenants. They are trying to do the same By the 2 CCNB's as well... Not sure if it's Seville that would be building those or not...

I also found out from a friend of mine there is a large amount of request from developers supposed to be coming in to city hall within the next year or two for more construction in the Area... It would seem developers are trying to out do one another possibly... I'm wondering.
1.Will it happen
2. What will be the impact on the rest of the city if they build a massive amount of housing, and commercial in the area from Lewisville, Morton Ave From the University to Elmwood, All the way up to the New Moncton High School.

I see there are lots of surveyors stakes in the ground where the rumoured Irving Big Stop is to be built on the NE corner of Elmwood and Caledonia.

Also, the structural steel is now going up for the new fire station on Caledonia Road.

Not sure how much of this is true but while passing someone told me that Caledonia Self Storage seems to be moving From there Price street location onto a lot into the centre of Caledonia park, and they believe the Freezer company might be moving as well. If this is true does anyone think the area would be turned into residential only?

Moncton Investing In A Greener, Cleaner Future
Posted on Monday, July 27, 2015

The City of Moncton is investing in a cleaner, greener future thanks to a recent funding boost.

They got almost 84,000 dollars to create a sustainable neighbourhood action plan for the Humphrey's Brook Secondary Plan area.

It's a 250 hectare site which is poised for development over the next few years.

Moncton is the fifth fastest growing city in Canada, with a projected population increase of 20,000 over the next 25 years.

The money from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Community Fund will also help create general land use policies and a naturalized approach to stormwater management.

Mayor George LeBlanc says it will help us lead the way in Atlantic Canada with regards to sustainable neighbourhood planning.

Does anyone know when the construction will start on the new Irving Big stop and also when will construction start at the corner of the TCH and Elmwood they are soo slow I am thinking it will turm out like a Mapleton Center project taking years and not getting anywhere. And with that said who would be the confirmed tenants?

If your talking about the potential Grocery store, and new Home Hardware I don't believe it will be any time soon unless something changes since the property, and supposed plans are for sale.

The Irving Big Stop I've seen some movement but no movement as shovels in the ground as of Yet. They where measuring out where Caledonia road is so I'm wondering if there any rework of the road before the construction begins.

My understanding is that the Elmwood Centre won't break ground until 2016 and is awaiting the completion of some roadwork in the Elmwood/Caledonia Road area before proceeding . The Elmwood Centre will include an expanded and relocated Elmwood Home Hardware (and building supplies), a grocery store (most likely a new small format Superstore), and a number of highway service type businesses (fast food restaurants, convenience stores, gas station) - nothing too special.

As for the Irving (possible Big Stop) across the street, as I pointed out on a recent post, there are surveyors markers in the ground, so they might be doing something as early as this fall.

What exactly is being done to the NE ramp of Rt 15 onto Harrisville Blvd? It's obvious they're widening it to 2 lanes but I can't see how they plan on making two left turn lanes going south onto Dieppe Blvd without widening the overpass first.

I've always assumed (and we all know how dangerous that can be) that they are making one left-turn lane and another right-turn.
Either way, it will get the cars off the highway when they want to exit, where they are backed up in the mornings into traffic going 130 kph.

That's my assumption as well.

This will help somewhat with exiting traffic, but since most exiting traffic from the 15 is turning left towards the Dieppe Industrial Park and the GMIA, the benefit of widening the off ramp will really be negligible.

This is yet another example of how the province of NB fiddles while Rome burns. The traffic problems at this interchange mandates widening of the overpass, just like how widening of the overpass at Mapleton Road was necessary. The province delayed the widening of the Mapleton Road overpass until it was absolutely necessary, and will do the same for the Dieppe/Harrisville Blvd overpass too.......

That wouldn't really work though, I don't think.

Before they started work, you had a left-turn lane toward Dieppe Blvd and a small slip lane going right onto Harrisville. From the looks of things, they're widening the ramp from nearly the start at Rt 15 to two lanes all the way to the lights. It looks wide enough for two lanes to meet Harrisville. You wouldn't have one of them turn left with the slip still there because you'd be merging two lanes into one right at the intersection. I suppose it's possible that the middle lane would allow cars to travel straight but that would just put you right back onto the highway...
