Re WestJet and Huatalco - sweet, we are contemplating going there this year and another option is good to have.

Park and Jet is located just north of the regular YYC economy lot now.

Lots of capacity and overall 'city coverage' from Europe today.

Paris (CDG) A330-200 on Air Transat (345 seats)
London (LHR) A330-300 on Air Canada (265 seats)
Amsterdam (AMS) 777-300 on KLM (408 seats)
Frankfurt (FRA) A330-300 on Air Canada (265 seats)
London (LHR) B767-300 on Air Canada (211 seats)
London (LHR) B767-300 on British Airways (189 seats)

for a total of 1,683 seats today from Europe.

The announcement of YYC-LIR (Liberia, Costa Rica) got me thinking of the 10 longest 737 routes WS flies, so I plotted them. The time is mach .79 in still air, and I dragged Hawaii closer to YVR to shrink the map.

I kinda went off the top of my head so may have missed something - YEG-CUN, YHZ-GLA, YYZ-POS are all shorter but let me know if one is longer and I'll plot it.

Better still, I think it's one of the longest non-BBJ routes in North America. Wikipedia says Sunwing does YVR-PUJ on the 738 which is 3,200 nm and getting close to 8 hours westbound... sounds bonkers.

I expect YYC-LIR to have to make some DEN, IAH, or DFW stops for gas at least a couple times this winter.

Nice. Probably due to my allegiance to BA, I'm wondering if Air Transat's CDG flight might be a worthy target for WS next summer. Alternating between LGW and CDG would be helpful for people touring the continent as they could fly into one city and leave from the other.

Ws always has a problem attracting and retaining enough FAs to handle YUL and YQB; my reasoning for not including CDG was that it could hinder WS efforts on french language skills. Their current plan is to have enough french speaking FAs so that all Encore and mainline flights to/from YQB and YUL have atleast one FA(note YQM is off the list although New Brunswick has a major french speaking population). From YYC, the upcoming winter schedules will have:

95 weekly transborder flights (up from 87 last winter)
46 weekly sun destination flights per week (up from 36 last winter)

That is impressive.

Clearly Westjet is bullish on the economic slowdown.

IAH is being scaled back to 6 weekly already (daily x6). Not surprised about that move.

Quite a bit of additional domestic flying too... Will look into more detail later.

Westjet really is developing YYC into quite the..... yes the "h" word!

It's not bonkers. I am the one who added that flight on wikipedia, and notice I listed it YVR-PUJ, not PUJ-YVR. That's because the eastbound (WG481) is non stop but the westbound flight (WG482) has a tech stop.

Seems like they changed flight numbers compared to last season. I need to correct that on wikipedia.

That's funny, considering the non stop is bookable on sunwing.ca as of Dec 21.

They tried YYC-FLL and then YYC-MIA a few years back when the Canadian dollar was stronger and yet WS still couldnt make either work. I don't see them succeeding now that our dollar is this low.

Wouldn't be surprised if this route lasts one season and is pulled soon after. 3rd strike, you're out!

You must not understand that I'm agreeing with you. I said PUJ-YVR is bonkers for a 737 because it's a long way. As a result, they do not fly it non-stop, like you say.

This misunderstanding may stem from the fact that I have a different understanding of the word bonkers, or rather somebody took a giant 🞵🞵🞵🞵 in your cereal this morning for which I apologize.

WestJet previously operated YVR-MBJ at 2849 nm and YEG-MBJ at 2663 nm. YYJ-HNL would make the top 10 at 2325 nm.

Thanks. I knew about the others but completely forgot they operate YYJ-HNL.
