Since they extended their opening deadline they are moving at a slower pace, I think they over estimated how far behind they were by quit a bit and now have to make sure they dont open sooner.

Its also a fairly more involved project/site. Lots of work to do on the podium and base areas rather than being able to simply concentrate the majority of resources on a tower?

The past few floors of the hotel haven't been easy, with different height floors/ceilings for the docks; the office side there is special stuff to do as the are at some roof lines. And the cranes have to be a critical path.

But with this weather, I'm a little surprised there isn't a half-crew working late into the evening.

I check the webcams for the Maple and Nova Centre fairly often and the workers at the Maple are there earlier and seem to work later.

The concrete work is more complicated that normal so I can understand it taking longer than other projects but the rate at which the steelworkers are installing the steel decking seems painfully slow.

.... And will be for 3 weeks. Looks to me like they are assembling the roof trusses on site, standing them up in the fork-like stands assembled yesterday.

3 pieces. "T16C" written on the top piece on the trailer in the right of your picture would seem to confirm the theory of 16 trusses, 3 pieces each.

Developer Joe Ramia is quoted today as saying the Nova Centre is still on track for its September 2016 opening. According to ANS, construction was set back by the harsh winter, including significant snow clearing after every one of the massive dumps we endured.

Ramia celebrated topping out of the seven-storey Argyle Street pedestal last week. It was the most complicated part of the project, but Ramia says the towers should go much quicker as each floor from here on is basically a duplicate of the one before.

He says the workers are labouring through the weekends and putting in long days to stay on track.

That fits with what I was told a month or two ago by TCL, that they are planning a soft opening Fall 2016 and first conferences already hard booked for early 2017.

They will be able to get up to speed with the new building after their soft opening by doing mostly local work... IE corporate christmas parties, fundraisers ect.

Was meeting with people from TCL today... the plan is substantial completion (95%) September 2016, at which point they get handed the keys and can begin to move in while deficiencies etc are dealt with. First conferences are for January 2017, but these are smaller local ones that will let them get their feet wet. A commercial real estate firm has been hired, and the existing trade centre space will be tested on the market to see if there is any interest. If not (and I would be surprised if there was), it will go to the city, with one option that is being explored is whether the Metro Centre could be expanded into the space.
