I still can't believe they're naming it Rogers Place. Rogers Arena and Centre was bad enough. At least those were for different sports.

Many Vancouverites will be accidentally buying tickets in Edmonton and vice versa.

Maybe at some point every city in Canada will have a large facility with the "Rogers" name on it, kinda like France where there are arenas all over the country named "Zénith": Zénith de Paris, Zénith de Limoges, Zénith de Lyon, etc.

I think that plans call for a second residential building to go up on the other end at some point in the future.

Question for the Edmontonians here: Since Stantec will be a mixed use office / residential building, would it be appropriate to say that it will be business in the front and party in the back?

Left of the arena has a future tower, likely office but could be mixed use or resi with a placeholder of a 1 storey and green roof which who knows, but again, future phase. My guess is a residential tower with retail podium.

That is a very nice and dynamic district Edmonton is building.

I really love the soft lines and curves of Roger's Place. It makes Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver's arena look like arena 101. This also seems far more of a community and a more pedestrian friendly design than any of the other big 3 cities which are nothing more than bland arenas surrounded by condos with no particular central design and little integration with the immediate community.

Stantec looks a lot better but, the street level doesn't whoo me. Wasn't a huge fan of the arena. Looks great on the inside but, never been a big fan of structures over streets. That's just me. The practice arena though is an unfortunate afterthought. Overall, some of those images could be out of the Brentwood mall pamplet.

The ACC is certainly built into the urban fabric. That it isn't a centrepiece of a district is not something to hold against it although it can function as such in a crunch.

The ACC is built next to a train station that is being upgraded to handle 800,000+ people a day. The new sidewalks interior/exterior/moats/gangways surrounding Union/ACC are almost as wide as the streets in the renderings there. It is a far more pedestrian friendly area when compared to walking around 6 giant parking lots surrounded by more parking lots, I'll have to assume that's your idea of awesome integration, I mean, walking out of your brand new arena and face to face with gravel/dirt parking lots in all directions. Forget about underground and above ground connections for pedestrians to Bus Terminals, Inter-City Rail lines, Commuter Rail-lines, Subways,Underground Streetcar Connections as well as Underground and above ground pedestrian connections to the largest pedestrian network on earth and yes newly renovated pedestrian plazas on Front and Quays Quay which is as long as the entirety of downtown Edmonton. When you take shots at Toronto ssiguy, do you even think first? Why bother comparing, to Toronto anyways, just judge it on its own merits and leave Toronto out of the picture at least.

I still refuse to call the Skydome by its new name. Haven't done it once.
