Agreed. The details of that corner of the building are very different than the corner in the first rendering too. Also in the aerial view, I can see the cutout in the roof line of the green space on the far side (Doyle) as well as the near side green space (SGR). That green space is what threw me off in the first place.

This has to be wrong. It makes absolutely zero sense to have the parking garage doors exit onto SGR. That would be the stupidest design choice ever.

It looks like the loading doors are on Doyle St., with the treed area facing SGR.

The library that's widely considered one of the best buildings built anywhere on Earth in 2014?

Those who think that are buying the sizzle, not the steak. They also haven't considered The Killer Stairs (TM Regd.).

Emera is proposing a major facelift for the office building it owns at 5151 Terminal Road, across the street from the Westin and Emera's Lower Water Street head office.

Emera bought the eight-storey building from Ralph Medjuck's company in 2012. It was built some 40 years ago and housed mostly provincial offices, though most of those offices have moved or are in the process of moving.

Ir's been badly showing its age and a renovation is long overdue. Apparently Emera's plan, according to company spokesperson Neera Ritcey, is to reclad the building so that it looks the Emera building across the street.

The two buildings will be joined by pedway.

The project requires municipal approval and Emera is planning an open house for later this month.

I think the killer stairs (and the way they relate to the atrium/rest of building) are actually one of the most-liked parts by critics. I heard an interview with one of the architects and he talked about them in great detail. As far as stairs go these ones would be a "green circle", to borrow ski/board terminology. I really don't see what you find so dangerous about them. They are just stairs (and non-slip ones at that)

Emera overhaul looks great! Reminds me of Ontario's modernist city halls (specifically Hamilton's and TBay's)

Well that pedway is sure going to look stupid. I hope that doesn't go through.

I agree. You'd think we were in Nunavut, with windchill pushing temperatures below minus 60 for weeks...

Yes the Emera overhaul looks good.

It looks like the pedway leads to the Emera owned NS Power headquarters (the renovated power plant). Maybe some employees move back and forth quite often, but it probably isn't needed. Some good umbrellas would be more justifiable, expecially if it is just a few executives occastionally going back and forth.

That is a considerable distance. The entrance to 5151 Terminal is close to the Hollis St side and the Emera building is set well back from Water St. There is no convenient crosswalk on that part of Water St either. Add to that the location on the harbour's edge where it is always colder than the rest of downtown and I can understand the need for some sort of protected walkway.

5151 is a building I have spent considerable time inside. Hopefully Emera will totally gut the interior. It has suffered from decades of low-buck govt renovations and the space is very cut up.

I have no problem with the pedway, either. Probably very sensible for those who work in these buildings; my understanding is this annex was needed for more or less contiguous operations and there is probably a lot of back and forth required between various working groups. As for aesthetics, I'm really not sure what about it would look ridiculous.

I just hope they save those very irregularly shaped blue spruce in from of the building. I love the shape of them.
Stupid is usually referring to people not things and ridiculous is an adjective usually used by people who cannot state a legitimate opinion, often used by people of the extreme right who parrot sound bites put out by their party that have no basis or thought behind them.

Most of the floors have been gutted and are free of barriers at the moment.

Not sure why the hate for the pedway. Linking both buildings which will see people travel back and forth often only makes sense

Anyone hear anything about the Tex-Park site? (e.g., Twister Sisters / Skye Tower property lot)?

We're now months beyond the "12-18 months" timeframe cited in this story for United Gulf to come up with a new proposal for the site:

http://metronews.ca/news/halifax/874994/...-site-re-examining-twisted-sisters-plan/

I think Bousquet has a point: unless UG takes concrete steps ASAP, the City should buy back the property and re-sell to a serious developer with a strict/tight development timeframe.

http://www.thecoast.ca/RealityBites/arch...er-5-million-to-buy-a-gravel-parking-lot

It's been over 10 years of delays, litigation, and bad proposals. Time for the City to move on this.

It's been over 10 years of delays, litigation, and bad proposals. Lots of press, but never any serious effort to develop anything there. All fizz, no gin.

A recent story in allnovascotia.com indicated that there are no immediate plans for the old TexPark site.

Unbelievable. They should buy it back.
