Ugh, not sure why they changed the name to Pivot Denver, 17W was just fine.

As far as the ground breaking, it happened over a month ago

Let's mark this as the first. Nobody west of the Iron Curtain has ever described a commie block as being "good bones" for a city.

Let's not confuse populist with faux anti-corporate liberal sentiment. I wouldn't want anybody getting confused and thinking Boulder is a populist haven. Even 1970s Boulder. Populists care about people other than themselves.

Because we are pivoting toward a bicycle-based economy and way of life. Obviously.

This is a "start of construction" ceremony or some other nonsense. Supposed to mark that they're now going vertical.

Every time somebody talks about this project it gets more egregious-sounding. No. It's 6 general purpose lanes - same as today - plus 2 managed toll lanes, one in each direction (with room for 4, two in each direction, depending on how things shake out).

You'll bike to it along the new Broadway with it's one lane for autos and four for bikes with some vague promise of transit.... because, well, bikes are the future of everything.

All this while smug in your skinny jeans and vegan-leather shoes.

Probably. I mean does anyone think that the Highlands crowd, excluding the dirt-poor Millenials, is going to bike or, god forbid, take 'da bus to this Whole Foods?

I expect everyone else will take the bus and trains or walk and bike; so that I can have clear roads to ride my mini with the top down.

Or at least they would if we didn't keep building these giant car attracting monstrosities with private money instead of obvious gems made from public money.

Is $3 per sq. ft. the min. buy in for rent in the CPV/DUS area?

Quote:
Sitting on top of the retail/parking will stand three 10-story towers containing about 580 luxury residential units. Rents are projected to start at $1,200 per month. Apartment units will range in size from 425 to 1,500 square feet. The average size will be 750 square feet.

EDIT: NM, answered my own question, the answer is yes

Cheaper housing, more cops and bicycle lanes for downtown Denver
Jul 9, 2015 by Neil Westergaard, Denver Business Journal

It's about the 16th Street Mall and about time.
Quote:
“There’s no public space that needs greater attention and a more significant focus than the 16th Street Mall,” Door said. “We are fully committed to making this happen. The mall must be perceived as a safe and secure and inviting place.”

The DDP is working with accounting/professional service advisory firm KPMG to develop a comprehensive security plan for the mall, which it hopes to unveil later this year. It’s being prepared with help from a senior officer of the London police force to “improve consumer confidence and overall experience on the mall.”
Whoa, they're getting serious (finally).
Quote:
That will be part of an overall plan to “re-envision” the 16th Street Mall and the surrounding neighborhoods, which DDP is doing in conjunction with the city’s Planning and Community Development Department.

Wouldn't you expect that living near the railroad tracks would cost extra?

But you point to how there will ultimately be different price points between downtown neighborhoods. RiNo, Ballpark, Uptown presumably will be better values.

DUS and certainly parts of CPV will be the upscale areas. Of course there will be variations too. Closer to 16th and 17th streets are where the nicest buildings seem to be.

As more product is added to the landscape and if we could only fast forward a decade or two... it will be interesting to see how things like rents evolve.
