The temporary stadium steps were open for the game so I took advantage of the opportunity to get pics from them and the concourse.

Nice! I like how One Pacific and Parq complex are not pointy towers but will introduce some streetwall in this open area.

What about a streetwall structure PLUS a really tall landmark tower set back in the middle of the lot? That would be tantalizing.....

There's nothing bad in that, but I think we should have a bit more massive horizontal buildings instead of only skinny towers.

Edmonton is a pretty small city but the folks there are thinking big. No streetwall near their new Arena stadium but nonetheless, it's going to have a really magnificent new downtown neighbourhood. Now that's a real entertainment district.

Yeah, their new entertainment district looks promising and that new event square is the main focus point there (although will be interesting to see how lively it will be in the middle of harsh winter). But otherwise I don't think Edmonton is very good example of nice street level planning. I did find their Downtown boring and uninviting and also very low-density.

They are a good example of a bold entertainment district vision, but that's it. Thanks for the link, though. I hadn't seen that fly-through video before.

With three red luffing jib tower cranes on site it looks very serious right now. Great project and so happy about it.

I love how just like in Vancouver the comments about the Edmonton development in that article above are about "We shouldn't be Vegas of the North." 1 casino does not Vegas make. I sometimes wonder if these casino complainers have actually stepped foot in Las Vegas. We'd need to build about 20+ Casinos 5+ times the size of the biggest we have in Metro Vancouver to even be close to start calling us Las Vegas North. Case and point just take the MGM Grand. It is a hotel with 6,842 rooms and a total gaming space of 171,500 square feet. Compare that to the Edgewater right now which is 1043 hotel rooms and 60,000 square feet of floor space.

So the MGM is 3 x the size Casino wise and almost 7 times the size hotel wise. That would require 3 x Edgewaters to = MGM Grand and that's just 1 Las Vegas Casino. The strip in Las Vegas has 29 casinos alone and the city itself is over 75 casinos...

Just seems as soon as you say "Casino" people go "OMG NO LAS VEGAS AHHHHHHH" even if it is like 10 new slot machines...

Anyway buildings is looking good. Glad to see this take shape will be interesting to see it in reality when completed to compare with the renders. I also agree it is nice to break up the towers with a bit of street mass and horizontal buildings with stature. Especially around the stadium where I think largely the stadium should be the center piece. If you surround it with taller towers it would start to lose its appeal to me.

I visited Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam on Saturday (just for fun, not to gamble). I was surprised how big it was inside. I have never really been to a casino and not yet to Vegas either. Too bad it is really in the middle of nowhere.

Check out Grand Villa and RiverRock, those two are the nicest and newest casinos in the metro.

Can't wait to see what Paragon does with this location, Edgewater is pretty lame

I have to agree with you. This type pf mentality drives me nuts too. Its like the people (some of them on this site) who start throwing out statements like "Vancouver should not be dubai" or "You must want Vancouver to become dubai" and this is while talking about a 500 foot building, or something being allowed to surpass a viewcone by 50 feet or something. Just like you said in your comment. Its like have you ever been to Dubai? (Just to be clear I havnt either, but I do understand the difference in scale and mass of the buildings over there). Like its not even a valid point, Its ignorant stupidity in my opinion. Anyhow.....
