In N Out would be amazing.

We need Chipotle though! My favourite fast food place when I'm out of town.

Freshii looks to be almost done on 17th ave. patiently waiting for it to open

Last time I had Chipotle (the one on Dundas Sq in Toronto) it was inedibly salty. I know it's expanding in Canada and it's just a matter of time- I wish if we were getting a US burrito chain that it'd be Qdoba but I'll be dead before that happens. In the meantime, Mucho Burrito is IMO every bit as good as Chipotle so I don't care if they come or not.

Those of you familiar with the 4th Spot (http://www.4thspot.com/) in Mount Pleasant will be pleased to know that they have opened a sister restaurant in Lincoln Park/Garrison Green called Spot On Kitchen & Bar (http://www.spotoncalgary.com/) in March.
I used to live in Garrison Green and was always blown away at the number of restaurants and pubs that failed in that space over the years. Nestled between the MRU and the density of both Lincoln Park and Garrison Green I always felt that it would be an easy win. But restaurant after restaurant under performed. I am a big fan of the 4th Spot and my hope is that their commitment to quality food will score them some fans in the area.

Went to Spot On and their spicy prawns are delicious! However, that spot seems like a death trap for business because it's mostly isolated.

It's a weird spot.

Looking at the menu, it gets my vote just for not putting BBQ sauce on a burger. Disgusting practice I never saw before moving to Calgary.

Speaking of burgers: I dined "in" for the first time at Corbeaux last Saturday. Got a painfully sunny spot on the patio- great patio, just not great in the hot and sunny part of the day with zero shade. I liked the look of the "patio bites" menu and had heard great things about the burger so I ordered it with fries. Added an egg for $2. It was gorgeous as were the fries but disappointment abounded: egg I asked for over easy was hard so added nix to the burger. Patty was what you see too often with restaurant burgers: THICK patty that was clearly oven-finished so it was impressive looking but dry. I MUCH prefer a flat top patty that's THINNER like you get at Dragon's Lair and far too few other places in Calgary. The bun was absolutely fantastic. Fries were beautiful, perfectly cooked, but dusted with this salt/cayenne combo that all collected at the bottom of the basket making the last few fries inedibly salty.

I like- heck, I love- all of the bakery I've got from Corbeaux. I've had cookies and fancy things in boxes and a ciabatta loaf from them they sell at Market17 that was superb, as good as Sidewalk Citizen bread. I love their sandwiches (sold at Analog) too- but this lunch was mostly a letdown. Wait was uncomfortably long, about 30 minutes, given where I was seated too.

Yeah it's totally a weird spot. I was chatting with the manager of operations for Fergus & Bix yesterday. Beyond location he said that the spot is in a tricky place in terms of demographics too. The previous businesses there have tried to please both the uni crowd and the casual diners who live in the area with limited success. What he means are the daily food/DRINK specials that get people through the en masse with little attention to the quality of the food. I think that Spot On has decidedly marketed to the casual diner and FAMILIES which is a step in the right direction. Also they have a BIG focus on the community. Every Sunday they have a community driven event. For example, this Sunday they are hosting and event centred around CFD Station 20 crew that is just across the street. With activites for the kids, BBQ on the patio and the opportunity to get on the firetruck and meet the firefighters.

The Spicy prawns are a favourite as our the Love Me Tenders and Vitamin Sea salad.

Still don't get the extreme love that In N Out gets. . There use to be one down the street from me and everytime i had something there it was rather dry. Went to one with my cousin at UC Davis and it was very much the same so i know it wasn't that particular location.

Crazy enough I agree with Rusty regarding Chipotle and Mucho Burrito.

I went to UniMarket down on 50th and it very much reminds me of many of the grocery stores I use to frequent in the bay area. I had some linguica which was very different style than I'm use to but it was quite tasty. It seemed to use green chile peppers in it.

Three new places opening on the 600 block of 17th Ave SW: Una has taken over the retail space next door for a takeout/delivery spot and hurray for that; a Japanese-French (as far as I understand it) place where Shawarma Knight was called 5S17, and a Thai place that looks very very close to opening- they just need tables and chairs installed - called Tuk Tuk Thai. Looks to be fast-serve which can't be good for the outstanding but underappreciated Thai Fusion Delight across the street in plaza by Purr.

Yup. You summed it up perfectly.

Corbeaux is the best when it comes to pastries.

Hot meals are hit-and-miss.
