Most Olympic Stadiums (if not all) see their capacity reduced after the Olympic Games.

And you're comparing strickly football stadiums vs a multi-purpose one. Not the same thing at ALL.

In 1976, the big O had that WOW factor at the Worldwide level that currently no stadium has (BC Place would be if it was bigger).

The Olympic Pool was renovated (alongside with the whole Sports Center) and reopened last month (May 25, 2015). It's now "state-of-art" and is FINA+ certified (I read one of the 3 in the country).



Even Tailibert was pretty damn impressed by it when he visited a few days after the opening, calling it one of the most beautiful in the World.

Where are the other 2 FINA certified swimming centres?

Im guessing the one in Victoria that Canadian olympians train at, and the other being the Pan Am competition pool?

Not sure but it could be, I read it here:

Current upgrades of the competition swimming and diving pools will make it the largest aquatic centre in Quebec (the pool will be elite, FINA-standard, one of just three in Canada)

Don't know myself, aside from the new PanAm pool, possibly the Don Smith Pool in Edmonton, can't think of anywhere else.

According to Tourism Winnipeg, the Pan Am Pool (1967 and 1999 Pan Am Games) is FINA certified:

I bet that when that olympic stadium pool article was written, they didnt include the new pan am pool in toronto as one of the 3. We may have 4 FINA certified pools now.

The real WOW factor for me is that there are cranes still up on the tower. Perhaps things were different in the 1970's but to me an unfinished Olympic stadium seems unbelievable for a first-world country.

That said, even today the Olympic Stadium could be the most iconic stadium in the world. I figure lose the roof, and just keep it from falling apart. Demolishing it would be huge architectural loss.

I've been to all three stadiums; BC Place, the Skydome and the Big O; and the most impressive by far in the Big O. BC Place really isn't all that special IMHO, the Skydome is quite neat in the fact that it opens up but the Big O is a quite few steps up in how it impresses - one has to experience all three to compare and feel the difference.

I just wish they would do like BC Place, find the right people and do it right the first time (refurb). Remember BC Place could have had the roof completed before the Olympics but it would have been extremely close and much more expensive so they didn't make the gamble. And thanks for that because everything seems to work with no or few problems that I know of.

The last that I heard that came out of the Bissonette hearings (unofficially) was that the original design with the latest materials and technology might be the way to go.

I know although it is a different climate, the BC Place roof was built to withstand some fairly large snow loads apparently unlike its sister stadium the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt. Upon further reading the Frankfurt roof is not closed in bad weather or snow.

BC Place is "engineered to handle even a “one-in-one hundred-year” snowstorm, it will be able to support up to seven million kilograms (7,000 tonnes) of snow".

I thought the recent WWC would have been a great excuse to do the refurb in Montreal but I guess it wasn't a big enough event to do so (or spend the dough).

2 stadiums at the world cup im brazil werent complete. It happens more than you'd think.

I think another major issue with the original design was that on a mildly medium day, the roof could not open or close. Perhaps with todays technology some 30 years later, they have a fix for that issue.
