Exactly! That is what made it such a nice evolution from the ideas employed in the Smurfit Stone Building. I can't believe that someone thought this was a secret that we would all discover when the building was finished...

Yes on this.

It would add a modern twist on the peaks for Lower Manhattan. It would shape it in a way that if others followed, we'd have a 21st Century version of the peaks of 1930.

While boxy can work, Lower Manhattan Aesthetically is boss with peaks.

At least I'm hoping for a modern twist some day that can give the feeling of it. What we really need is a tower or two with an epic crown. Jin Mao Tower would fit perfectly.

Thats kinda the bummer with WTC2. No crown. I could care less if it was just a giant box, but if it had an epic crown, build it now.

But as I've mentioned before, finishing this tower is one step closer to restoring the former glory of the Empire City.

LOL, the "irregular shape" wasn't a secret or something to be criticized at all, it was part of the design. People are grasping at straws.

a perpendicular viewpoint out from the center of the roof-plane . . .
shows that the slice atop citicorp forms a square roof . . .
Foster's 4 diamonds collectively would of course form an overall diamond shaped roof.

Regardless of the tenant, I don't think they have as much say in the facade as you believe.

hm, don't like it. what's wrong with a classic design?

The art deco and beaux arts masterpieces really have to put up with some dross down in lower manhattan. off-kilter staggered blocks, buildings with asymmetric yellow panels at the top or strange grey lines and zig zags, weird curvy silver facades, not to mention the 1970s boxes ringing the shore.

Lame based on what. It is not just another one of many glass building just blending in with others in the skyline. It stands out. So does this one. At least the height was not chopped here.

of course btwn 1930 and the beginning of 1990 we had the ugliest buildings,all around the world,in the human history.
