Also, other great firms in other cities - like here in New York. Hire us!

per ATL Business Chronicle:

"Atlanta is proposing to spend up to $510,000 to build a new road at Fort McPherson because Tyler Perry Studios plans to close all public access to major streets that are part of the 330 acres it is buying."

I'm sorry - has this been part of the plan all along? I don't remember reading this? I get that movie studios are typically not open to the public, but this is such an amazing redevelopment opportunity completely wasted if all of it will be closed off to the community.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. There are 100's of redevelopment opportunities in Atlanta. Losing one is not much of a loss. More importantly, this development will create a significant amount of jobs that only require a HS diploma in most cases. Tyler Perry and his studio has been a huge economic engine for this city for quite some time. Having a significantly larger studio at Fort McPherson will only create more opportunities for the city and the people of Atlanta.

With that said, I am perplexed why Tyler Perry Studios in not paying the $510K for a private road.

Looks like they are starting to install HVAC units on Seventh. I know they have a ways to go yet but anyone know when the first move-ins are supposed to occur?

But there are not 100's of redevelopment opportunities MARTA-adjacent (especially at this grand scale). There are realistically a small handful, and this is one of them. Ultimately the movie studio is obviously great for the community and for Atlanta, but out of 330 acres I don't see a need for the whole thing to be walled off - feels like there is a missed opportunity here.

Ya, my roommate has one reserved and said that the estimate is for then; but he doesn't believe it will be ready then.

Post Millennium Midtown was issued land dev. permit yesterday so that can now start anytime now.

Site prep might be starting on the Hines offices at 17th and State. The parking lot is gated off and all its signs were taken down.

Atlanta seeking $29.3 million TIGER grant to extend streetcar to BeltLine

According to a local blog, The TIGER 7 grant application outlines a project that would add 1.8 miles of track (round trip) to the existing Atlanta Streetcar at a total cost of $65.4 million. That cost would include the acquisition of two new modern streetcars as well as three new stations as well as an addition traction power substation.

Extending the existing line to the Atlanta BeltLine will only add to that “last mile” connectivity by bringing riders to other unfolding attractions, including the Krog Street Market, City of Atlanta COO Mike Geisler said.

Geisler said now the city is working with MARTA and likely will adopt a mobile app to charge fares – providing a seamless experience for people using transit in the city. A decision on the TIGER 7 grant awards is expected in mid October.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...sts-emerge-toredevelop-civic-center.html

Weingarten Realty Investors and a group led by Steve Harvey, CEO of Global Development, and JLL have emerged as frontrunners to redevelop the Civic Center property. Apparently the city has shown interest in different aspects of the development and there has been discussion of a potential combined bid that could leverage the strengths of each proposal.

For the life of me I can't understand why they spent millions of dollars completely rebuilding the Edgewood bridge and didn't design it to handle the streetcars. I know there's a grade difference between the street and Beltline, but come on.

How does this routing make any sense?

It's convuluted, goes down Randolph (which is very narrow and lined with single-family homes), adds unnecessary turns through tight intersections, and doesn't take advantage of the Beltline right-of-way.

Pardon the crappy photoshopping, but wouldn't this make way more sense?

i seem to remember very specifically that they were going to be building the new edgewood bridge to accommodate a street car connection in the future.. i guess they changed their minds?

I think they built it to accomodate streetcars passing under it, but not streetcars tranferring from Edgewood to the Beltline. There's plenty of room in each direction where they could have built sloping ramps to accomodate tracks, but they didn't.

Running it down Krog would honestly be pretty terrible...it's a small street and the traffic on it already gets really bad.

Plenty of room to accommodate the slopes? What grade assumption are you using to figure that? Even using a quite steep slope of five percent means it would need to depart Edgewood's grade 400 feet away from the bridge, and if you have to curve that just increases calculated grade in the track (think of a spiral staircase).

Anyways, I hope this fails because the idea of running a streetcar on the Beltline seems pretty ridiculous at this point, but that's a topic for another thread.

Way to be optimistic......glad to see you're one of the only few who aren't optimistic about the BeltLine (particularly the transit portion).

"It has become a favorite target of critics who have called it a boondoggle and questioned its value in solving Atlanta’s transportation challenges.
Geisler laughed and said he has the scars to prove how the streetcar has become a whipping post.
But he also said it has generated a great deal of goodwill among the people who live in the area, among the merchants along the route and especially among the visitors who come to Atlanta and now are able to more easily experience several of the city’s top destinations.
Extending the existing line to the Atlanta BeltLine will only add to that “last mile” connectivity by bringing riders to other unfolding attractions, including the Krog Street Market, Geisler said."

As someone else noted the bridge was too low in the first place for the transit to go underneath. Also this would have eaten up so much valuable real estate for the site the BeltLine is "more than likely" awarding to N. American Properties along Dekalb Avenue - which is intended as a signature gateway project for the BeltLine Development.

Now let's hope N. American doesn't screw up this one with the blandness they established in their portfolio at Avalon and O4W Boho projects......

I'm extremely optimistic about the park portion, for the record. I just don't like the transit part because it will ruin the trail.
