The plot thickens. Here's another CBC tweet: "Looks like Gallant gov't's Moncton Downtown Centre announcement is coming today."

The funding was in place for highway 11 also, not to be a pessimist but I will believe it when I see it.

IIRC funding is still in place for the highway, the project is just delayed (likely until after the election).

This year's capital budget has $19 million for the Shediac end of Hwy 11 and another million or two for the Miramichi end.

Major Announcement

In my inbox today;

Brian Gallant would like you to mark Tuesday, June 23rd on your calendar for an exciting economic development announcement you don't want to miss.

The Announcement will be held at 9am at the Delta Beausejour.

What can this be?

No idea, but you have peaked my interest......

I wonder (since the events centre question has essentially been settled) if this has something to do with one of the proposed ancillary developments in the area (Aquillini block etc)?

I hope you are right and if it is, the liberals played their cards right on this one.

Why would Gallant show up to steal the thunder from a private development? Can't imagine the government would pump money into a private hotel/whatever development.

My hunch is highway funding but it's a complete guess.

Here's the answer direct from Dawn Arnold's Facebook page: Opportunities NB announces $250,000 forgivable loan for 50 good paying jobs with BackOffice Associates.

Somewhat underwhelming but good news nonetheless.

According to the T&T, although the company is based in Massachusetts, the President & CEO is a Moncton native who graduated from MTA with a Commerce degree. I guess that counts for something.......

from the City of Moncton website:

MONCTON – Until July 4, Codiac Transpo will be test-driving a 24-seat (30 foot) accessible low floor bus on various routes within the tri-community. In exchange for filling out a comment card (available on board), customers will travel for free on this vehicle.

"In addition to collecting and reviewing passenger feedback, staff will be analyzing other performance data, such as fuel efficiency, service issues, and overall operation," said Angela Allain, Codiac Transpo's General Manager. "This particular bus is a relatively new product on the market, manufactured by Canadian company Grande West Transportation. The dealer has provided an opportunity to test drive it with no obligation to buy. The information gathered will assist our research into the use and costs of smaller buses."

This exercise is not linked to the $2.7 million in funding, announced on May 21 by MP Robert Goguen, along with MLA Monique LeBlanc and Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. That fleet replacement project, under the New Building Canada Plan, will serve to purchase eleven 40-foot buses between 2015-2019.

I'm bringing up an old subject... About a year old to this day I believe we drove by the property on the corner of Mountain Rd., and Terris this morning, and the for sale sign was no longer visible... Anyone know if it's been sold?

So, with the recent changes to the grocery and gas business, Co-op Atlantic has just laid off 400 workers.

Not surprisingly, Moncton has been badly hit with 250 job losses (mostly warehousing and corporate).

It always seems like it's two steps forward and one & a half steps back around here. We gain about 350-400 jobs between Cabela's and BPS but lose 250 at Co-op.

It's damned frustrating........

An important announcement for storm and sewer infrastructure in Moncton this morning with federal and municipal partners :

'' $24 million infrastructure announcement ....storm sewer improvement project in NW Moncton ($8 million by each level of government). '' Source : Dawn Arnold's FB page.

Is this part of the ''in kind'' federal funding for the events centre?
