One of my favorite events every summer in Cleveland is the GIFT Cruise - it's a benefit for the
Gay
Invitational
Fellowship
Tournament, a gay bowling league tournament. I'm not a bowler and I doubt most of the attendees are, but it's always a good time. Oh yeah, it's on the Goodtime III, and every year I've gone the weather has been decent to great - this time it was so-so, there were storm clouds to the north and south and the route didn't make it very far down the Cuyahoga but I still managed to get some nice shots.
Federal Building reclad is plugging along:
Boaters making use of the new transient marina:
All kinds of watercraft on the Lake; the tan/brown one in the background is a former barge, now headquarters to a software company:
Sorry about the gratuitous photos of the Hilton construction - not that often we see tall buildings go up, so why not:
Apparently the container shipping business at the Port of Cleveland is double what it used to be?
The former Coast Guard station - with all the nearby redevelopment, I have a feeling this place will be getting rehabbed in the near future:
The Flats East Bank project - Phase I included the Ernst & Young tower, and an aLoft hotel; Phase II is the eight-story mixed use building seen here and the boardwalk:
Not sure, but it seems like the older areas of the east bank of the Flats are getting fixed up?
I'm guessing it was either the threatening weather or multiple ore freighters further along the river, but this was as far down the Cuyahoga as we got. :|
At this point, the clouds looked a little more threatening so the captain turned the ship back toward port:
Hope you enjoyed!
