You're absolutely right Nicko999, it certainly demonstrates the lack of fan support for NHL teams in these sun markets.

Like you said "You grab a bite to eat at a restaurant, go to the game, go home to get rest for work the next day" Ok...so....TNSE is building a District with sports bars and restaurants aimed for this exact reason. Wouldn't you rather go to a restaurant not only steps away but connected to the MTS Centre/Convetion Centre through a warm skywalk in january? If I'm an out of towner (which I am) I'm gonna stay at the hotel literally right beside the arena (which I will)...Therefor I'm probably gonna eat there as well because It's logical and if I'm bored ill hit up a movie there,gamble there,Shop there ect. 80ish hockey games per season plus events/concerts in one of the busiest arenas in north America. And that's just 1 of the 2 venues this project is aimed to serve. You have a really busy convention Centre that's being doubled in size as we speak. And then you have out of town teams coming in 80ish times a season to stay at a true north owned hotel. The spin offs from that have crazy potential

As for your Toronto vs Winnipeg theory you're telling me if The jets were holding a fan party to watch the playoffs in may jets fans wouldn't show? You can get 30,000 bombers fans to sit on cold plastic seats to watch a football game at -30 but not a Jets game at 10-15C...take a lap bud!

I guess true north is just burning 400M dollars. You guys should send them an email educating them with your pessimistic views on economics and save them from this mistake. These Idiots have no idea what they are doing thank god uve done the research for them

They're building it for the office tower, condo and hotel along with leaseable space at the base. That's what this project is, nothing more, nothing less. It's not being built as a "gathering place" unless you consider a Shark Club-type restaurant and bar that caters to pre-game dining to be a "gathering place".

Well yeah I'm certainly not implying they are building a 400 million dollar gathering place but whats the point of adding the public plaza if they aren't expecting a ROI? To state that the close proximity to the MTSC and RBCCC has nothing to do with True North's interest in this project is ridiculous.

Guessing that $30 million was saved by using the same facade Copps was made out of in the 1980s.

Jesus Christ. It costs that much to BUILD a stadium.

Just board that ugly mess up and forget about it... or sell it for $1 to someone who wants to turn it into an aquarium or something stupid. No point in sinking any public money into that huge mistake.

Who commissioned that report, the RIO? Because they are not exactly an unbiased party in all of this... as opposed to mere administrators of a facility, they have a track record of advocating for more spending on the stadium and other buildings. It all smacks of empire-building.

The most fiscally prudent thing to do would be to rip off the roof and just run the place on a barebones budget as an outdoor stadium.

I love how the Big O looks but as far as stadiums go, it is the biggest money pit of all time. The only thing that comes close is that stadium in Kuwait that was only used for one game and has been closed due to structural issues.

There you go. The only surprise is that the RIO didn't just make it a clean billion and threaten a series of 10 plagues on the people of Montreal if the stadium is demolished (although they did threaten a horrible 9/11 style dust cloud over the city if the place were to be blown up with explosives, so there's that).

Nope. That was was replaced in 2007/2008 (ish?) with the current one being removed and placed in ricoh.

Werent they supposed to replace all the seats this summer as well?

Does anyone have a render of the new scoreboard? Will it be the cleavland/ tampa type, or the quebec city type?

8 years old isnt that young when it comes to technology. the original acc board was replaced after that long. The bmo board was replaced this year after 8 years. Technology ages fast.
