New planning commission presentation?

What I see.

1. New Bed & Breakfast in Highland Park
2. An attempt to change a parcel from EMI to General industrial in South Side. A parcel the owners eventually plan to turn into housing anyway.
3. Lots of information about the Lawyers Building/Pittsburgher. Pretty horrid sign renderings. Heh.
4. A little bit on Wood Street renovations.
5. More on Eastside 3. Not much we haven't seen before though.
6. Yet more on the Forbes "Arby's Context" apartment building.

Judging by the photo of the Three Crossings building, Apple should have ample utilities from all of those poles.

Very interesting--all of a sudden The Strip is Pittsburgh's Silicon Valley.

How amazing would it be if many of the remaining strip parcels went to technology and growth industries and then spread across the river to all of those empty lots next to the Heinz complex and over to the Alcoa building. That would kind of merge the hot east end with the growing Northshore.

Also should fuel the "Apple is working on cars" rumor mill a bit. Not that this in any way confirms that they are, but with the prominent Uber stuff here I'm sure it will be noted.

Plans to transform Mellon Square into a full-service restaurant mecca are well under way:

Vallozzi is bringing "Pi 2.0" to the Alcoa building, but this seems like the bigger overall news:

Expect so much more dining to come around Mellon Square that it will soon rival Market Square as a destination, said Herky Pollock, executive vice president in the Pittsburgh office of CBRE, who suggested to Vallozzi reintroducing Pi to the Alcoa building, for which he represents the retail leasing. “If you fast forward 18 months from now, Mellon Square will be unrecognizable from what it is today,” said Pollock. “I have eight or nine restaurants coming into the Mellon Square area and you’ll have two more additional hotels.”

The two hotels include a new Embassy Suites now under construction within the Henry W. Oliver Building across Smithfield Street from Mellon Square and a new Even-branded wellness hotel slated for the redevelopment of the nearby Macy’s building. Pollock said he’s negotiating with five restaurants in the Union Trust building, three are in the works for the redevelopment of the Saks property, along with the Vallozzi restaurants.

As noted previously I don't mind about the PTC project, but the South Side Works project is a bit of a bummer.

Stopped by Mellon Square last week in the evening. Too bad the fountain is shut down for repairs -- due to damage caused by skateboarders the sign said. I also noticed how scraped up the walls were due to skateboarding. Lot of trash all over the place too, especially cigarette butts. And some of the plantings were not being cared for. This is all disappointing since the place just reopened last year. I'm hoping that a greater restaurant/hotel presence in the area will improve what has been allowed to slide rather quickly.

As noted previously I don't mind about the PTC project, but the South Side Works project is a bit of a bummer.

A bit of a bummer, but I'm not too impressed with Oxford's latest developments/proposals in general. I imagine someone else will jump on the site.

I wonder if Oxford is trying to concentrate on it's 350 5th proposal, along with stuff in the Strip and East End, which they may consider hotter neighborhoods for them than the SSW/PTC area.

I saw in a related story to the link you posted that a 100-room Hotel Indigo is planned for the PTC... I missed that.

That Grandview project rendering looks great - if they build that , the hotel will be bringing in major wedding and event money for 7 or 8 months of the year.

I needed to get something notarized for a building permit so I walked up Penn further than I normally do last week.

It's been discussed in the thread months ago. I can't recall the details, but the planned design is *very" modern. It will be the typical retail below, with apartments above in terms of usage.

It looks like it is part of a larger overall plan known as 3400 Doughboy Square.

I didn't realize they want to completely redevelop that whole area in Lville, that will be awesome if all of that gets done.

There have been master plans for Doughboy Square at least as far back as 2010. I know that there is at least one other project in the works - another apartment building which will replace the abandoned "J&K's Place" building and fill in almost the entire gap up to the Doughboy Townhouses. Since the last townhouse has side windows, I don't think they can ever close the streetwall now however.

As an aside, I was researching recently property ownership, and discovered that one of the major "old-timer" holders of undeveloped property in Lawrenceville recently passed away. The Nese family own these buildings, along with this one (and the vacant lots on either side) and this one. I'm presuming the heirs, once they settle the estate, may be amenable to selling to developers, which could result another infill apartment building, and maybe a conversion.
