Partially correct, but the 95 has the fewest skipped stations of any route (only Train, which is only served by the 92 and 96 along Tremblay, and Cyrville which will be closed completely).

Ottawa – Royal Galipeau, MP for Ottawa–Orléans, the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, MPP for Ottawa West–Nepean, and Mayor Jim Watson will lay the first official rail track of the O-Train Confederation Line light rail transit project and showcase the Belfast Yard maintenance and storage facility.

Date: Friday, June 12

Time: 12:45 p.m.

Location: Belfast Yard, 805 Belfast Road

Parking: There is no parking at Belfast Yard. A shuttle will depart City Hall (110 Laurier Avenue West, Lisgar Street entrance) at 12:15 p.m. sharp, and will return to City Hall at 2 p.m.

Personal protective equipment is required to be on site, including a hard hat, steel-toed boots, a safety vest, safety goggles, long pants and a long-sleeve shirt.

Because he is less controversial. And Pierre is just a 🞵🞵🞵🞵, would you really want him there to tout how his government will lower taxes while funding the 'largest' infrastructure plan in Canada's history... funding starting in 2017.

Being a Track Labourer for a Class 1 railroad in Canada is really hard work, but it pays will. I've been keeping an eye out to see if they're hiring track layers for the guideway.

The first spike: Confederation line track construction begins

The clanging of sledgehammers on steel spikes rang out Friday as Mayor Jim Watson and area politicians helped lay the first section of track for the $2.1-billion Confederation line.

The short section of rail at the new Belfast Yard storage and maintenance facility will eventually be connected to the 12.5-kilometre line, which will run from Tunney’s Pasture in the west to Blair station in the east.

“It was a very proud moment,” the mayor said afterward. “An event like this at least shows there is light at the end of the tunnel and there is a train coming. It will be tested in 2017 and ready for customer service for 2018.”

Belfast Yard buzzed with construction activity, as the large warehouse containing light- and heavy-maintenance bays is to be finished by summer’s end.

The facility will then be used to assemble the 34 Alstom Citadis light rail vehicles and is expected to create up to 100 jobs, Watson said.

Friday’s milestone sets the stage for the Transitway to be converted to light rail, starting this summer (the eastern leg between Hurdman and Blair closes June 28).

It also means more headaches for residents and commuters as traffic congestion and construction will become a way of life for the next several years.

“It is going to be very challenging, there’s no question about that,” Watson said. “This is a classic example of short-term pain for long-term gain.

Transit service along the eastern section of the Transitway will be relocated to new bus lanes on Regional Road 174, Highway 417, and other parallel corridors, lengthening some trips by as long as 16 minutes.

Closures on the western leg of the Transitway aren’t expected until later this year.

The company laying the track is VIAS which is part of the Spanish construction conglomerate Grupo ACS / Dragados S.A.. This company is part of the Rideau Transit Group consortium. They did have some jobs listed on the Indeed web site, mostly for machine operators. It is very difficult to find out who to talk to concerning jobs as I have found out.

Wind Mobile Corp. has struck an exclusive deal to bring cellular service to its customers who use Toronto’s underground subway.

The wireless carrier ?announced the move during a press conference with the city’s mayor, John Tory, at a downtown Toronto subway station Wednesday morning.

?The company is working with BAI Canada, which holds a contract from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to implement cellphone and WiFi coverage in the subway system.

Yet, to date, BAI has only deployed WiFi service at a number of downtown subway stations, leaving many transit riders frustrated that they cannot use cellular service to make calls and send text messages during their commutes.

Wind said it has set up infrastructure to deploy cellphone service on the platforms of 18 stations in the downtown lower loop of the Toronto subway system.

The carrier said the cell service was live on Wednesday at three of those 18 stations – St. George, Bay and Bloor-Yonge – and additional stations would come on line during this summer's Pan Am Games.

Mr. Tory said Wind has signed on to be the first cellular carrier to offer its customers cell service on underground parts of the subway.

The mayor said any carrier can sign on to offer its customers service and TTC Chair Josh Colle said he hopes the move will put pressure on others to sign on.

Wind serves only a small number of customers compared to the dominant carriers, Rogers Communications Inc., Telus Corp. and BCE Inc. (BCE owns 15 per cent of The Globe and Mail.) In December, the company had 800,000 customers in Ontario, B.C. and Alberta, while the Big Three together serve more than 25 million wireless subscribers nationwide.

But Wind CEO Alek Krstajic said in an interview that his company negotiated the right to be the exclusive cellular provider for the TTC for one year. He added that other carriers could negotiate the right to roam on Wind’s network if they want to offer their customers service sooner.

“Rogers, Bell and Telus could have come on some time ago, but they chose not to. Full stop,” Mr. Krstajic said at the press conference.

He predicted that the competition from Wind would force the other three to make a move soon too.

BAI won a contract from the TTC in December, 2012, to implement cellphone and WiFi coverage in the subway system. The company is paying the transit authority $25-million for the 20-year deal and brings in revenue through ads displayed to users before they connect.

The contract with the TTC stipulated that BAI build a network that would allow for both WiFi and cellular coverage. Over the past few years, BAI has been deploying WiFi services at an increasing number of downtown subway stations, but it was unable to secure an agreement regarding wireless coverage with the Big Three cellular providers.

In April, BAI said it had activated free WiFi service at all subway stations in the “lower loop” of the Yonge-University-Spadina line, which is also known as Line 1, from Bloor to Union to St. George.

Riders still will not have either WiFi or cellular coverage throughout the subway tunnels, which will eventually be added as BAI expands its network over the next few years.

BAI is part of the Broadcast Australia group of companies but is 100 per cent owned by Canadian pension funds. BAI Canada’s sister companies have implemented wireless services for transit systems in cities such as Hong Kong, New York and Singapore.

In Montreal, the Big Three wireless providers along with Videotron Ltd. – which is the fourth largest carrier in Quebec – announced a partnership with the Societé de transport de Montréal (STM) in November, 2014, with plans to bring cellular service to the city’s underground subway line in five phases over five to seven years.

In that case, the four telecom players said they were equally sharing the cost of a $50-million investment to deploy the wireless network while Telus was responsible for the actual implementation.

Telus also launched a pilot project last summer testing free public WiFi on three Vancouver bus routes.

The Carling office is the Engineering / OLRT construction management location - you won't find any sub-contractors there.

I would approach local contractors such Tomlinson, Taggart, etc. since RTG is using these guys to carry out most of the construction work. There are specialist contractors doing the tunnelling, track and signaling work, but they usually bring in a relatively small group of workers and then hire/train local labour.

It probably takes the comms team that long to get "approvals".

They're also changing the system map as well. This is a big break from precedent, as normally the system map is only redone with the fall service changes in September.
