Yup, Faubourg Boisbriand. Which is a typical ugly outlet style mall - but with that castle thingie, boy does it bring its ugliness factor up.

There's a Cage Aux Sports there. I've never understood the concept of having a bar in a suburban outlet mall. Isn't this basically encouraging drunk driving? I mean, I don't see any possible scenario where public transportation would take you there and back. It just looks like No Man's Land.

We can't fault Americans for their fatassed car-culture and mono-retailing urban fabric. We are just as bad. Maybe even worse. That place is an abomination. I live very close to a similar outrage.

But it still doesn't beat Laval's clock tower. There is none that can.

You know, aside from the kitschy architecture, it's better than your average big box centre. There's at least an attempt to improve the pedestrian experience, even if it doesn't succeed to the extent of some other places.

Shame on my region. I drived THOUSAND of times from St-Eustache (Where I lived ) to Ste-Thérèse (Where I studied )... you just can't miss it from A640 !

Those pictures make the parking areas look absolutely massive, but when you're walking around there it's actually *not so* bad.

Not as good as Dix30 of course.

Strong regional planning and high land costs makes building sprawling big box malls kind of difficult in the Lower Mainland, but they managed to find some land at the end of the runway near YVR and they are building this:

I'm not sure what they're trying to go for with the fake Chateaux look. Maybe it's a nod to the Hotel Vancouver? It's a style that is really not associated with BC.

Not associated with BC, but it is associated with Canada... they're basically giving the people from Asia who will be shopping at this place what they are expecting, even if it isn't exactly regionally appropriate.

It's also a bit misleading as there are numerous pad sites that have yet to be developed.
