Per the article:
Quote:
The plan has been scaled down since its original inception, but many neighbors still opposed the plan.
The original plan was for apartments and I had suggested it would be a good location for townhomes. They combined the two ideas which I think is admirable. Screw the mindless neighbors.

Ha! Look at that! Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Oh I know it's been said that this tower looks a lot like Calgary's Eighth Avenue Place...but I don't care. I love it regardless.

That model is beautiful! You don't see such finished models much any more, probably because of the level of detail you now get with the modeling programs. I think this building is visually a lot better than the Calgary building, which is a little weird looking. It's kind of like how the starchitects like Mario Botta and Santiago Calatrava produce slightly different copies of the same building, bridge, etc. over and over.

Holy crap; I didn't realize Calgary's was a 1.94 million sq. ft. twin towers project.

Glad to see this project breaking ground in Denver though.

I interrupt the 1144 15th Street love because it looks like corey was speaking the truth.

I offer to put into evidence this fine photo from Denver Urban Review.

That's from the front. From the back it's still a blank wall.

I have a good friend with a master’s degree in industrial design. He works for a robotics company now but he used to work for a company in San Francisco (back when I lived there) that made models such as these. I think he was a project manager if I remember correctly. He had the keys to the place and on more than one occasion, when we happened to be having drinks near his shop, he let me in to show me all the models they were working on. Some of them were of large office buildings like 1144 15th (although the models his particular team was working on at the time were of transit stations). It was hella fun for me since I geek out so much on this kind of stuff. Those models were awesome. Amazingly detailed.

Anyway, I asked him how much they were charging for some of these projects and I was totally shocked by his answer. Those models are NOT cheap.

I wish it was a little bit taller. I wish it was a baller. I wish it had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a ’64 Impala.

Seriously, anything of substantial height on the south side of 14th would totally alter the skyline from certain angles. One day...

Yeah it's ugly. Perhaps it's not worthy of the rhyme I busted. It's not quite Tetris Building ugly, but close.

The comments under the article are hilarious. I guess only conservatives read the WSJ.

The largest office project in Denver in 30 years breaks ground, and the best facebook headline that Streetsblog Denver can come up with is "858 Parking Spaces Coming Downtown." I expected them to improve the discourse in Denver, but so far, it comes off as a bunch of tiresome undergraduates who don't know when to step down from their soapbox and look at the bright side of something. Like three office buildings' worth of space that's not in the Tech Center. Or, as Ken pointed out, a parking ratio that's one third what it would be in those suburban locations. I kind of just want to tell Streetsblog to "grow up." (Also, I know Cirrus insists there isn't an anti-car lobby, but I am still waiting for Streetsblog to beat a drum that isn't exactly that - nobody should drive, ever, seems to be their only message.) There are other things that matter to healthy streets and cities too, FYI. Like having lots and lots of people on/in them.

Sachs little echo chamber (bikes, bikes and more bikes) is getting tiresome. The over-celebration of low-hanging bicycle fruit and lack of focus on other complete streets issues such as transit connectivity is transparently biased.

Bunt, the articles on the I-70 viaduct redo are amusing. When are you going to be interviews on it Bunt and explain why four toll lanes are necessary?
