Yeah, wow. The deliberate lack of symmetry between the left and right wings is just a big "screw you" to anyone who happens to catch an eyeful of that place.

It's like whoever designed that thing had some kind of latent hatred for Montreal's beauty and charm and wanted to knock it down a peg by inflicting a special kind of ugliness on it.

I have a feeling they ran out of material and asked "what do you got on special?" I'd be surprised if the structure is even plumb.

You know that scene in every sci-if, fantasy and horror movie where the camera slowly pans up to reveal a gargantuan monster...? Yeah that's what this reminds me of.

^The old Ottawa Civic Centre, which is where the Ottawa Senators played when they started up again. It is also the North stands of Lansdowne Park (now TD Place Arena and Stadium).

For reference here's the rendering, though the view is from the opposite direction. There's still the curve on the corner which you can't see in the above pic, but the articulation and cladding on the front is ugly as sin.

^Certainly not as good as the rendering. It gets most of its appeal from the variation in the jut outs which is almost completely lost in the new one. A different lighting angle would make the building appear less horrific, but it is definitely less visually stimulating.
