I'll be out of town for the rest of the week and haven't been on top of the news, but this is a pleasant surprise. At least it came sooner than I expected. I think the design departure will take some time to get used to, but reading some of the details, a better tower overal.

For those that don’t like, just use your imagination when it is built. From the street level, I guarantee you will be drawn to explore the design of this tower from every angle compared to the other towers in the site while looking up. The design is a draw imo, while not being iconic.

I think it would be cool looking up from the ground admiring the multiple cantilevers on the North and West side of the tower and the twisty setbacks on the west and South sides. Because there is no diamonds, this tower will appear much taller and on par to the height of tower 1 minus the spire.

Foster’s is basically a tall box (boring) with the diamonds (interesting) which you would appreciate more looking from the distance. I think… I would enjoy this tower more than Foster’s visiting the site.

Could BIG do better? Yes absolutely and hope for some adjustments but even if not it is more interesting. Maybe more interesting should be reserved for the Hudson Yards and not the WTC site, but BIG’s current design is more refreshing and I’m an advocate for change. Sometimes change is good and imo, the WTC could use a refreshing.

I would have preferred, Silverstein to have built 2 WTC first and screwed around with either tower 3 or 4 which I love if it meant saving Fosters tower but it is not the case and we have a major corporation that will be committing into the ever rebuilding WTC site and moving it a step closer to completion.

I think you're taking the renderings a bit too literally. Background buildings in renderings obviously aren't intended to have exact accuracy.

There's no indication 3 WTC has any recent changes to design. If so, they forgot to tell the developers, because nothing has changed on the 3 WTC website or marketing materials.

I've been in love with the diamond design ever since I first saw it a decade ago. This is repulsive. I'm at a loss of words for how bad it feels to know that my beloved 2WTC will not happen as originally proposed :'(

West is what I’m really ecstatic about. IMO, It is conservative and respectful facing the memorial but it has an interesting reverse set back as the tower rises, which I really dig. Lol. (If there is such a term)

this viewing angle I despise. It is one of the most photographed angle of the downtown skyline. The other towers all have a 'strong' appearance from this angle. This tower will look like a flimsy feather. My problem with the design of this tower in general is that it stands out too much for this complex. The apex of the tower is a terrible flat roof. The rest of the tower is what was made interesting. For the Foster's design, it was the opposite. The crown was outstanding and the rest of the tower fit in well with the complex.

It's basically the same building with a different shape.

But a building that's more open and will bring more life to the area.

But more importantly, it's a building with a design that will allow it to be built. No waiting another decade for a tenant.

This tower will stand there for tens if not hundreds of years, I would wait few more years for better design.

While I'm a little surprised by how plain it is from some angles, I must say, and I think now that I'm presented with this new design, it's much clearer: this building strikes me as far more "New York" than the old design. I feel like, and this just may be my familiarity with Two Prudential Plaza and the Smurfit-Stone Building, but I almost feel like the diamond-crown design would have been far more at home in Chicago than here, or just another city in general. This new design looks like a slightly off-kilter and 21st-centuryized version of 1251 Ave. of the Americas, and the other Sixth Avenue towers in Midtown, or maybe one of the contemporary towers in Times Square. Those are buildings that are as much representative of Manhattan as deco icons like Empire and Chrysler. I find it highly suitable.

It also looks far more uniform with the rest of the complex now. Like those four buildings actually form the new World Trade Center, special individually, spectacular as a unit. And at least no one can say that 1WTC won't be the star of the complex forever anymore, which is also as it should be.

Plus, if this means this will be built soon and not 10 years from now, I say have at it.

This is my first time posting here I usually just like to read the updates and what people have posted, but I need to say something about this building. This is the ugliest building I've seen if this gets built. I just fell in love with the diamond shaped building, this is a sad day for me.

I preferred the old design myself, but this isn't a horrible departure. It also keeps some of the tenets of the old design in mind.

My only beef is that the view from the memorial park will look very boxy, and the old design kind of broke up the boxes in my opinion.

a leaning tower at the WTC... looks so flimsy. Almost like a shattered version of the old 2 WTC tower
