I thought they were OK, but broadcasters sure were outspoken about disliking them due to the small numbers on the front. I'm surprised it only lasted the one season (1995), with Toronto, Birmingham and Memphis using the logo-on-front design.

Via twitter @RaptorsMR

The Raptors will play 3 games as part of the 2015 NBA Canada Series.

Oct. 4 vs. LAC (Vancouver), Oct. 14 vs. MIN (Ottawa) & Oct. 23 vs. WAS (Montreal). Tickets for all three games will go on sale June 6.

Winnipeg will also get a pre-season game on Oct 10. but not the Raptors. It will be Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves vs the Chicago Bulls which is awesome.

They should just move the damn Hawks here and complete the set of former Philips Arena tenants... even with the Jets and Moose here, I'm sure we could do better than this!

MTS looks Great as an NBA arena too! LOL I don't want anymore sports franchises in Winnipeg. It's hard enough to explain to people why i grew up 2 hours away from Edmonton yet cheer for Manitoba team's.

A Canadian soccer league is coming

Quote:
CSN has confirmed that Canada will have a league of its own in 2017.

A source close to the negotiations said that a formal announcement will be made late in 2015 or early in 2016.

The league will have between eight and 10 teams located across the country. There is some direct CFL involvement, as well as ownership from other sports. The source was unable to confirm what specific cities were in negotiations, citing confidentiality concerns.

The league will not be affiliated with the NASL. Although there were some early conversations about partnering with the NASL (that were reported on by CSN) the source said those talks were “greatly exaggerated.”

Additionally, it was stressed that Traffic Sports were at no time involved in the discussions.

According to the guy who wrote the story

Quote:
Victoria, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Quebec and Moncton = 8. Edmonton and Ottawa may jump from NASL for 10. *SPECULATION*

Best case scenario (I guess?) would be Calgary Foothills FC, Winnipeg WSA, Edmonton FC, and Fury FC officially joining. Interesting no mention of London FC or KW FC. I'm concerned about the travel costs of a national-league but I surely hope this works out well. Perhaps we can finally expand the Canadian Championship beyond 4/5 teams.

So this will be "Canadian national pro soccer league version 5.0"? Or is it 10.0?

Are we counting leagues that fold before they even start?

I give them halfway through the first season.

We're not a baseball league, we usually manage to make it through the season...

I'd place the health of the clubs currently operating ahead of the health of a Canadian league. It would be nice to have but I think firmly establishing a strong core of clubs that can stay alive when their league folds (e.g. the Whitecaps and Impact) is more important.

Where is the speculation coming from that there might be a team in this new league in Moncton? There has been absolutely nothing in our local media.

We do have a soccer stadium with 10,000 seats and hosted the FIFA U20 World Cup last year, and the FIFA Women's World Cup this year. Is that what's driving the speculation? Who would the backers of such a franchise be??

Why wouldn't they try to work with the NASL for a Canadian conference? Its an establishedish league? My god this is going to crash and burn before it gets off the ground. I mean the stadiums in Moncton, Edmonton, Foothills and Victoria are a joke. I can see WPG,Hamilton,Ottawa making this work But you're gonna be missing 3 of your major cities that are in the MLS? Theirs so many things wrong with this scenario. Stick with the NASL, Get a stadium and wait for your call to join the big league.

Do you have a clue about the Moncton stadium? Probably the perfect venue for a new soccer venture. You called out Berklon for his posts, you might want to consider less quantity and more quality in yours.

My understanding is that at least one of the Canadian League franchises will be in an MLS market (Toronto) and that all of the other speculated cities are just that, speculation. NASL cannot have more than 3 cities in Canada given its current mandate (2/3 of franchises have to be in the US). The idea of an independent league is the best option given the circumstances and in my opinion the preferred option.

Yeah I have a clue on Moncton stadium. Its nothing more than 2 grandstands in a field. 1 Looks Temporary. Its not like were talking about a world class stadium here. Its hardly above the level of Quelph. Don't let that pretty seat pattern fool you elly. It's a 20M stadium at the end of the day. Great for soccer? debatable.. It's 15 yards back from the running track on 1 side Its not like its an intimate Stadium yeah It will work. but when put against the other major venues in this country It's not like anyone is gonna shine a light on it. Calm down their turbo

Despite your claims about it not being a world class facility it has still hosted three international events (IAAF World Junior Athletic Championships, FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, FIFA Women's World Cup) in the five years it's been operational. Whether or not you like it doesn't diminish the fact that it has had incredible ROI for the Moncton-area.
