That's basically what I'm suggesting. A modernization project complete with bringing fans closer to the field. More Loge seating could be added quite easily. A gathering place with some THF style balconies People just need to get off the idea that the stadium HAS to keep the huge seating number. The Eskimos need 35,000 seats anything more than that will be empty on CFL days and even at 45,000 permanent seats it will be the 4th largest stadium in the country. And lets not forget its expandable yet

As for mosaic I'm not convinced.

Is the roof going to look THAT much better than the canopies at IGF? is the random seating layout going to be that much more attractive than the layout at IGF? the more I look at the drawings the more I think this stadium is being over hyped. The finish is the only thing I think will blow IGF out of the water because Winnipeg cheaped out on that. But seriously I just dont think this stadium is going to live up to the HYPE on this forum

Its basically the same design. a lower bowl, upper bowl, 1 row of suites and the open concourse. IGF has 2 screens, NMS will have one. The biggest difference is that Mosiac has one end closed in and one end open

It has most of those, albeit not as fancy, but it does.

Um... yeah, even during the lowest points the Esks draw around that number. That would be ridiculously low. The only way Commonwealth removes seats is if they do what you mention and lower the field and add another few rows of lower bowl seating thereby removing the track. Then the endzone seats would likely be removed and the capacity would probably stay around that mid 50,000 mark.

There is nothing similar about the design of IGF & MS. The new Mosaic is an infinity bowl (rounded at the top) which allows more sideline seats between goalines whereas IGF is the same right across. Also the new Mosaic has upper deck end zone seats which is far superior to lower vantage points. The designers of Mosaic Stadium have designed some of the top stadiums in the world (ie Cowboys Stadium) & they can produce the best bang for the buck whereas IGF designers, this was their one & only. IGF however even with its warts is still a nice stadium.

It's not designed to "look" that much better, rather it's designed to allow light through to "showcase" the prairie sky and give the feeling of a non covered roof... While providing cover from the elements.

Seating layouts aren't generally designed to be attractive. It's designed to be functional. Will there be a larger amount of higher quality seats @ Mosaic? Yep.

I do agree with you that the stadium is being hyped up. With the amount of experience behind the team who engineered and designed this stadium, there should be hype that it's going to be incredible. Will it live up to the hype? There's just over a million people that hope so.

"Lower bowl" - yes.
"Upper bowl" - not really. You won't be able to walk around the perimeter of the upper bowl. If you mean 2 upper infinity sections and an upper endzone section... Then yes.
"1 row of suits" - There's 2 levels of suits on either side @ NMS. 1 level on the west side will be used for media.
"IGF has 2 screens, NMS will have one" - NMS will have 2. A huge screen in the 1 endzone and a slightly smaller screen in the corner of the other endzone. I'd hate to compare any screens to IGF though... Have you been to a game? The screens are incredible. The content is sad. There's no dedicated "football" screen to show stats, replays, etc... Both screens share time between ads, replays, stats and more ads. My 1 real gripe with IGF in all honesty.

I absolutely love IGF as a football stadium. Outside of the lawsuit and other issues people have with it, I think it's an absolutely incredible venue to watch football.

In addition to my previous post responding to OilKountry

Mosaic has 2 levels of suites (not 1 like you claimed) & will have a massive video board in the south end zone & a large one on the NW corner. Also you've failed to acknowledge all the other amenities that IGF does not have like the 400 seat General Admissions lounge, the several balconies for patrons on interior & exterior of building, translucent roof, etc.

Comparing these stadiums says it all.

Oh yikes. My bad I though it had the same open style concourse and then the suites up top like IGF. I also didn't know about the lounge or balconies thanks for the knowledge my friend. I guess 80M does get you something after all.

Well IGF does have a lounge that would probably house 400-500 people called the Pinnacle Lounge albeit not overlooking the field. I have also seen some pics posted of the suite/club level that have some common room/s where they serve food that overlook the field although these are not lounges per say.

There is a large sky deck at the south end of investors group field overlooking the field. That's the only one though. I've haven't seen any details as to how many balconies there will be at new Mosaic just some renders.

Commonwealth used to be the defacto home pitch for CMNT the CWNT until it ripped up the grass. It was Canada's only real "International style" stadium with grass.

I'm pretty sure that it ceased to be the national soccer stadium before the grass came out.

Edit: The national soccer teams moved to BMO in 2007, at the time BMO was fieldturf and Commonwealth was grass. BMO went grass in 2010, the same year that commonwealth got fieldturf.,...

Better turf than what BMO had had.

Although the substance of the article by Kelly was BS, as a catalyst to get people talking about the WWC it seemed to have worked. So, in that regard, good job.

Seeing all these pics and drawings and then thinking about yet another season at cramped/crappy McMahon is hardly depressing me at all! (but then again I'm pretty drunk)

Not to mention one of the best features of NMS in Regina is the improved wind conditions. With the sunken field and one end being fully closed in. That should make a huge difference when it gets windy on the prairies. These architects have spent a lot of effort analyzing the historical weather patterns.

They said that the old Taylor Field could not of been designed any worse. The orientation of the stadium actually funnelled the wind. Anyone that has been to a game there will agree that wind is always a major factor.

The coldest day of my life, actually. Forecast called for 18 degs and mostly sunny for this particular evening game so we dressed accordingly. Can you say, 2 degrees, cloudy, drizzling, and howling wind?
Beer sales had to have been nil but hot chocolate and blankets over in merch were probably record setters.

You people should be better than this.
But its not just one article by one person. The narrative from the national media based in Toronto is openly anti-Albertan, and they have been ever since the uppity westerners started acting un-Canadian and not respecting how Canada is supposed to be (dominated by Central Canada, two founding nations, etc etc)

I live overseas and generally the rudest people I meet tend to be from the UK or from Southern Ontario. When I meet Toronto people overseas and they ask where I am from its usually the same BS response - rednecks, oilsands are a national embarrassment, Stephen Harper is an idiot, anti-American rhetoric.
Its unbelievable - its like they all read the same books and all have the same misinformed stereotypical ridiculous perception of Alberta. To me the Oilsands are not the national embarrassment, its ignorant Toronto types that have no problem cutting down other places in Canada, while professing to be a beacon of urban sophistication based on tolerance and education. Its a joke. The whole MacDavid lets sh*t on Edmonton was another example - and that was only a few weeks ago.

Toronto will never be a world class city until its media and many of its citizens grow up.

Some international media opinion on Edmonton and Commonwealth Stadium:

http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=627925&binId=1.1203428&playlistPageNum=1

The only stadium that possibly could have been more impressive than Commonwealth Stadium is a completely packed BC Place (on a sunny afternoon with its roof open, which is what would have happened on this perfect sunny day in Vancouver). Although it is too bad (for ticket sales) that the Pan Am Games coincided with the World Cup and as a result Toronto is not able to host a group, holding the opening game and opening ceremonies at BMO Field would have been the true national embarrassment. It's small; it looks unfinished; it has gaping holes in the corners. It doesn't remotely look like a major league/flagship stadium at all. Commonwealth, BC Place, IGF are unequivocally superior. The only World Cup stadium in Canada that BMO Field actually looks more polished and bigger league than is the Moncton stadium (and maybe, just maybe the north stands of TD Place).
