No one has enough traffic to Doha, except NYC and Houston. DFW has less traffic than Philly. PHL's advantage is the connectivity agreements with AA/US Airways and the fact that they are in the same airline Alliance (One World). Only a very small number (<20%) of U.S. originating passengers actually have DOHA as their final destination - they are connecting to Asia, Africa and to a lesser extent, Australia.

So I guess that's the same case for BOS, NYC, ATL and LAX which are all starting A350 service in 2016. It has little to do with demand - versus the 777-200. I'd like to know your source for the claim that Philly has more issues filling Business Class seats than anywhere else, except, NYC and IAH. My guess is that it's another A-Net unfounded claim from an armchair CEO.

The info is directly from airline industry forums where people discuss the business all day. What is the source of your certainty?

Center City zoning changes: http://planphilly.com/articles/2015/06/02/committee-approves-zoning-changes-in-center-city

Still feels pretty restrictive. For example, a project that fronts three or more streets (which translates into a large parcel) has a height limit now of 55 feet (up from 38 feet). An improvement yes, but will it drastically reduce the number of variances requested??? It's certainly a step in the right direction.

Zing..take that Chicago

Somewhat cynical interview in which Dan comes off as a true high and mighty NYer ...only he is a Philadelphian...

A while back I heard people speculating on CITC being expanded (floors added).

Has anyone heard anything else on this or was this based purely on speculation?

Is this really happening?

It has been and continues to be speculation.

Pretty nice. I was in 1818 Market 2 weeks ago on 35th floor and views were great, especially of FMC and 1919.

I'm in Commerce Sq - eastern tower. Eastern and Northern facing windows in my office. Perfect construction view, plus I can keep an eye on my place!

Wow...very odd take and thanks for posting. I almost felt bad for the interviewer at the end as Rottenberg continued to passive aggressively attack Chicago.

SO BUILD TALLER! They keep building these stubby, bland boxes along Market Street - fill them up immediately - lament their lack of space! - and then rinse and repeat. With all the demand over the years for office space in this incubator the only thing that's stopped us from having an iconic supertall over here is the developer's ambition.

There is something to be said for the mid-rise development that they are pursuing. In just a few short years, University City has gone from universities surrounded by vast seas of parking lots to a much more urban, dynamic feeling place. If they put all of their office space in a single supertall we wouldn't have the great neighborhood that has developed, and we'd still have ugly parking lots.

If having a tall iconic tower meant more vacant lots, then I'd rather have the midrises. However, there's no rule that midrises hav to be "stubby bland boxes." What they lack in height could and should definitely be made up for in architectural flare. Some of the very early Science Center buildings are hideous while the newer ones are a step up. But they're still not much more than stubby bland boxes.

This is so true. The newer buildings in the science center are a bit better, but on the whole the stretch just looks underwhelming. Some of the earlier mid rises also have pretty weak urban design, pushed back from the street with little fronting retail. I think it's getting a lot better now though, and am excited to see what this area has in store for the next few years.

Society Hill, great neighborhood. Fitler Square, great neighborhood. The dull collection of mid-rises along west market from 35th-40th? Not a great neighborhood. It's not really any neighborhood, it looks like Downtown, USA. And these buildings aren't dainty examples of conservative infill. 3601 Market, for example, is a 400k square foot building.
