Dont know. Toronto is not one of the host cities. Plus Japan plays its first match in Vancouver. Could be AC is carrying another Asian team, which will be connecting in YYZ to either YUL, YOW or YQM, which are host cities.

This coming Sunday, LH478/479 is operating FRA-YOW-YUL-FRA. Bringing the German team to YOW. Their first match is there on June 7.

Nope, this one-off flight has been scheduled for months.

Perfect timing with three Air Canada heavies active on the field. AC851 LHR-YYC just landed 17L, AC2 NRT-YYC is just turning final, and AC9 YYC-NRT is just pushing back.

First World Cup games are in YEG next Saturday so keep an eye on that for charters and what not. Canada v China and New Zealand v Netherlands.

Transborder out of Alberta seems to be getting hit hard.
I am still surprised to see transborder down as much as it is out of YYC as there were some pretty decent capacity increases this winter/spring across many routes. Hopefully this summer will see a turnaround in those numbers. I was expecting YEG to be down as their capacity was down for the winter and that will continue into the spring and summer. UA has also been cancelling quite a few flights ex YEG lately.

Agreed. With spending being cutback, out of town business trips are right in that territory. At least two out of town work related trips I had planned this year have been canceled due to spending restraints.

I wonder what the numbers are like on flights to Houston? Our company has always had people flying to Houston regularly, but that has comes come to halt lately

The inaugural YYC-YXT AC8593 sched to leave at 09:55.

This daily flight will be operated by a CRJ.

I have a hunch your company isn't the only one that is doing that.
Things do seem to be down but YYC hasn't seen any cancellations on UA.... YEG has yet another UA cancelled flight today so there is definitely an impact being noticed.
Westjet is still scheduled to launch IAH in September however.

Westjet and rouge just might be squeezing AA/US out of the AB-PHX markets.

As of now, AA/US have slashed both YYC and YEG to just one daily flight for the upcoming winter scheds.
As mentioned previously though YYC-DFW is still showing two daily throughout the winter.

For PHX, the morning flight from YYC has been dropped.

In YEG's case they are flipping their DFW and PHX flights. PHX will operate in the morning but DFW moves to an arvo departure. The opposite of now.

Well its after 10am and I haven't heard an aviation rumor, so time to start one.

Heard a rumor a couple weeks ago (started on flyertalk) that WS is in discussions with Skyteam about joining their alliance as a full member. The introduction of euro style J class (blocked middle seat on first few rows of the narrowbody aircraft) is the first of a series of events that will culminate in WS joining an alliance. Alliance entry is part of the widebody 763 program.

Second indication that WS is considering Skyteam, they have just placed their code on a bunch of DL routes out of SEA, a city not currently served by WS.

AA pulling down PHX could be another indication that WS wants into an alliance. It is very hard for alliance and codeshare partnership to get through competition authorities if the two partners share routes (this is recent events in competition authority undertakings - many long time partnerships agreements allowed competing on hub-to-hub routes). The carve out on hub-to-hub routes scuttled the AC-UA JV on the transborder.

The current method to get around competition authority rules is for one airline to drop services that could be subject to a carve out or competition objection. UA dropped most of the their flying in EWR prior to merger with CO and was successful getting through FTC and DOJ objections.

Putting the UA/CO EWR into action, AA should drop YYC-PHX services. If WS joins Oneworld then AA can codeshare and comprehensive joint venture with WS on the route without fear of carve out. If WS joins Skyteam then look for all of Oneworld to pull out of Canada, save for couple flights out of YYZ and YVR.

I'd be surprised if WS were to join an alliance. They have got it pretty good right now doing codeshares with Airlines from both Oneworld and Skyteam. This is a significant revenue generator and part of the reason they have been so successful in negotiating these is because they are not in an alliance.

Update on some construction activities:

1) Rubber Tile Flooring install is progessing in the Piers. The majority of the building has granite floor however the Piers (Gate Areas) as well as Arrivals Sterile Corridors has this floor (similar to what you'd see in a rec centre).

2) Glass is being installed to divide the upstairs Transborder area from the lower International departures area.

3) Not IFP construction, but the new Mezzanine Level (near Food Court) Tim Hortons is nearing completion and should be open shortly!

Thanks for the great photo updates!! As someone who spends his time at YYC working with crews from across the country, I really wish they hadn't gone with the rubber floor option. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard people remark about the floors looking cheap and tacky and I must admit I share their opinion. I feel your comment about the floors belonging in a rec centre is bang on.... my first thought on seeing them was that they were something that belonged in a Good Life Fitness and not a multi-billion dollar airport improvement project.
