If anything, it's just a shame to be selling a purpose-built / specific building.

In cases like this, I'd rather see the City allow them to transfer density (i.e. not restrict density transfers to heritage buildings (which I think is the rule?))

Also, the CBC plaza could be built on with a tower. The site can be further in-filled (the current addition sits on what was a larger open plaza).
Building a tower there would be another stepwise densification.

One of the ugliest buildings in Downtown must be the Sandman hotel on Georgia. The wole block is full of old ugly buildings.

The main building is ugly but I can live with it. But it's that corner at Cambie and Georgia. It's hideous and makes no sense!!

What the heck is it even? A parkade?

I am sure this block will be demolished in next 20 years, as even the power plant next door will be relocated for more condos.

Losing the CBC downtown will be sad IMO.

Having major broadcasters in a city core adds another small layer of texture, variety, and vibrancy.

Currently it does add some elements that I enjoy, such as the tickers and screens, in a city core. Out in the suburbs it will just become another warehouse box with no animation outside, adding nothing to the urban area.

CBC wants to get rid of their real estate holdings. So could that mean they would sell it and lease some space back? like how banks don't own their buildings they lease the space.

The Sandman Inn ADDED a wing on the Cambie St. side (opposite CBC) about 10 years ago.

If you stand on Cambie between the Sandman addition and the old CBC bunker, you are in a real sweet spot for fugliness.

Wow, I have to say that my brain must have been blocking this monstrosity out as I have never noticed how hideous it is. The addition is even uglier than the main building!

The blank wall on the new wing look like it was designed to be added to
- i.e. a redevelopment of the older building to fill the corner.

Never realized that practically all of the new tower is on a transfer slab.
The alley is an alley - there are newer projects with similarly ugly alleys.
That's actually a well configured rddveway - a tour bus can probably get in and out of there easily.

I love the old CBC buiding. Such a serious, throw back to when media was Media and the news was the News.

It's also a bummer to see another unique building in Vancouver get rendered into yet another glass tower.

Yes, and the rear of the tower extension looks into the back of the original portion, you're right.

There is an exterior renovation going on for one concrete tower in West End. I hope many more ugly towers in the area would get a facelift.
