Hell, I remember in the late 90s the Bombers almost went under too. When you think about it, every CFL team except for the Eskimos has had a brush with death at some point in the last 30 years.

If it survived back then It's gotta be just about bullet proof today. One more elephant in the room in Calgary (not that they are in dire need for a new Stadium). And then All the problems in the league have been fixed. It's all about expansion and growing from there. That's good problems to have

Hopefully we hear news of the new Calgary Stadium/ Arena project soon.

Haha, probably feels bulletproof although the reality is that it wouldn't take much for the CFL to hit the shoals again. There is a long way to go to build the league up to be prosperous for the long haul, but the current crop of new and renovated stadiums is a big part of that plan.

Once Calgary gets its new stadium, then yes, basically all of the long-standing problems with the league (shoddy ownership in some markets, bad venues in some markets, lack of good TV contract) will have been addressed. Every team will have a good new or thoroughly renovated venue and solid ownership. Then the league can really concentrate on growth and adding teams 10, 11 and 12. Huge credit to Mark Cohon for getting things under control during his term as commissioner.

Riders have signed Nic Demski. Cue the rehashed story about coming home and all that when the Riders play in Winnipeg this year.

The Riders were a mess since way before the mid 1990s. The eighties were atrocious as well. Something changed, mainly the departure of Al Ford. It's a fine line in the CFL though for most teams when it comes to prospering or just surviving. Hopefully the increase in the Regina area population will make the fan base a little more stable. Thirty years of near 0 economic growth in Regina wasn't really healthy for anything including the Riders and then the suckage on the field was epic.

Eskimos also have a history of questionable player moves that certainly appear to be designed to inject a star player in a struggling market....

Ray and Mcmanus/Flutie being the most obvious.

Two of the grounds I visited in the UK this season were ground that had been expanded. Due to the fact that these grounds planned their expansion(s) during the original design phase, I couldn't tell the difference aside from a slight difference in the weathering of bricks at one ground. All this being said, these grounds benefited from planned expansion while BMO needed a sensitive evolution. I feel that the expansion of BMO was done quickly and the quality suffered because of the urgency.

A compromise at BMO ?

Was told on weekend and have had it confirmed now that MLSE now prefers the 2 surfaces, 1 stadium solution to BMO. Looking seriously at it.
24 hour turnaround from soccer to CFL and vice versa using the Terratile system

Shouldve been the preferred option from the get go.

That's just so beautiful and logical there is no way anyone will go that path until the current plan becomes ridiculous even though other venues have proven that.

Eskimos is the correct answer to the only team Braley has not helped financially.

I suggested that idea long ago and no one paid any attention.

Also, nobody has mentioned that the new roll up artificial turf that the Jays are now using will be of no use to them after this season and will be available for the Argos or 2/3 MLSE or MLSE to buy at a cut rate. That is only if the Jays start early on their plan to install a turf surface at the end of this season.

There is a lot more proof that ground sharing does work than the few one time examples of when it hasn't.

If MLSE was talking $3M to invest in Desso and the lights for growing grass, this seems more economical, better for both teams, and the potential or the Argos to earn more revenue with on field ads. (not a fan of, but revenue is revenue). WIN, WIN, WIN

It seems optimistic to think that the Jays will move their grass installation schedule up, even with the Argos news. They've only recently announced the exploratory relationship with the University of Guelph to find out what kind/varieties of grass will work in their facility, and you'd have to think that would take some time to work out.

Jays Blogger Andrew Stoeten is usually pretty good about this kind of stuff. He doesn't think the timeline will move up for installation of grass at the Rogers Centre.

The jays timeline for grass isn't moving up. Its 2018 at the earliest. That new turf is staying at the Rogers Centre.

We also do not know what type of turf they would need or how it would be stored. I am sure it is different than others as it would need to be pulled up - rolled up except during Argos games. I know the turf at BC Place stays down permanently and Terraplas goes on top and then whatever other surface is needed goes on top of that.

The turf may even have the field lines, numbers etc. stitched into it rather than painted on

As nice as Sporting Park (Kansas City) is, it only has a capacity of 18,467.
BMO with a roof will be the largest stadium designed for soccer in MLS, its particular setup is very similar to the look of Premier League stadiums with great atmosphere.

For example, here's Anfield Park (Liverpool FC):

One of the main reasons why I don't think BMO can contend with some of the gem grounds of the MLS is BMO has a temporary look and feel to it. Additionally, the new additions look tagged on rather than evolved.
Sporting Park is the best SSS in the league. Take a look at some of the images of it. Quality work on the exterior and they have a large plaza area. General seating is of a better quality, club restaurant/lounge looks fantastic.

Interestingly, many of the MLS SSSes look like they could pass for CFL eastern division stadiums. If you took Rio Tinto Stadium and added a few thousand seats, it would make an awesome venue for the CFL in Halifax or Quebec.

BMO is no longer a SSS.
