Good that it parallels the TCH. Route 2 around Moncton is a prime candidate for frontage roads along its length. Like from Mapleton to Aviation Ave, with the only trouble spot being around Elmwood Dr where renovation might have to take place on the highway to steer clear of existing developments (the median is too wide there anyway). An interchange could be be built about halfway between Mapleton and McLaughlin. An overpass should also be built at the end of the Aviation extension, unless it goes all the way to the 132.

Dieppe has never been a strong supporter of an interchange on Route 15, in front of the airport, because they`ve always favoured one at Aviation Ave. at the TCH. Or at least many past mayors have stated this, I`m not sure what Mayor Lapierre`s feelings are on the topic. So maybe, some day, sooner or later we will have one out that way. Which will kill any chance of having one built in front of the airport, where in my opinion it belongs, but oh well they never asked me ha ha.
And yes eventually their plan is to have Aviation Ave. circle all the way around the airport to Champlain Street (Route 132) at the far end of the runway. DIP has stated this in the past that it is their ultimate plan. If I owned one of those homes east of the airport along Champlain St., I`d be finding a good realtor and get while the gettin`is good.

Co-op Atlantic voting to sell Sobeys its gas and grocery assets

Co-op Atlantic is considering selling its grocery and gas assets to Sobeys in order to keep the business afloat.

The grocery side of the business includes about 173 member-owned and franchised stores under supermarket banners such as Co-op, Valufoods and the convenience banner Rite Stop.

Members have until May 12 to vote.

The recommendation came after an operational and financial review that took months.

In a release, Co-op Atlantic board chair Adélard Cormier said:

"Co-op Atlantic and its member-co-operatives have worked hard to remain viable in the increasingly competitive world of retail food and gas. This decision has been a difficult one for management and the board but is, we believe, the best option for the continued viability of the member-owner stores and the co-operative movement in Atlantic Canada."

After the vote, Co-op Atlantic said it would be in a better position to assess the future of its remaining divisions including home energy and agriculture.

I wonder what sort of effect this will have on Dieppe Blvd, where Sobeys is building a new supermarket just up the street from the existing Co-op store?

perhaps they will scrap the food store on the proposed location, convert the coop and maybe expand the strip plaza ideal...this way they don't have to adhere to the guidelines of the approval process??? opens some doors for sobeys that is for sure.

Dieppe update:

1. A new foundation is being poured at the location where the apartment building burned down last year close to Mathieu Martin high school

2. The exterior work on the new Starbucks appears complete (parking lot still not completed)

3. There appears to be some ground work across from the airport. I wonder if this is the new Audi dealership?

Meanwhile, still no movement on any of the proposed office/commercial buildings in Dieppe's downtown. The empty lot between city hall and 200 Champlain street now has a for sale sign on it.

According to the T&T, the $13.5M reconstruction of Acadie Avenue across the Chartersville Marsh will begin on May 18th. The project will be ongoing until December of this year. Expect lots of traffic disruptions, but this work is very necessary.

They are busily clearing a lot almost directly across from Malley Industries on Aviation Blvd. Apparently this is for a new manufacturing facility for CE3 Electronics. They are apparently consolidating their various facilities in town into a new 60,000 sq ft building.

There are plenty of Five Guys locations in Canada (I can think of five in the Ottawa area alone..) so a location in Moncton/Dieppe wouldn't be too difficult to fathom.

Considering Big League is basically Five Guys without the title I don't see that happening unless maybe a second Big League in Dieppe.

And the awful roundabout at Gould & Notre-Dame was being ripped up today.

As suggested above, the proposed Sobeys store on Dieppe Blvd may be cancelled. From Radio-Canada:

Le gérant de la Coop reconnaît que s'il y a un partenariat avec Sobeys, le projet de nouvelle épicerie n'ira pas de l'avant.

« Je pense que dans l'éventualité d'une entente, la Coop de Dieppe avec Sobeys, je ne pense pas qu'on doit envisager deux magasins à proximité », affirme Raymond Melanson.

Basically, the Radio-Canada article states that Sobey's has trouble seeing having two similar stores in such close proxinity to one another and they may abandon plans for the new store on Dieppe Blvd.

The acquisition of Co-op therefore seems to have put the kibosh on the Sobeys store and I therefore presume the whole proposed retail development will now be shelved. I'm sure the mayor of Dieppe will be pleased

Of course, Sobeys had originally planned the new store to be in Harrisville next to the new Kent store. That's far enough away from the Dieppe Co-op that I wonder if Sobeys would now consider building there instead.......

You would think that when they proposed the new store they would have known about the Co-op Deal. Or at least known they were negotiating it. I don't see the difference tho, the Co-op on Mapleton is just as close to the Northwest Centre Sobeys.
