Magic Mountain Announces Multi-Year Expansion Plan
MONCTON (NB) – May 22, 2015 – Magic Mountain Ltd., a member of the Maritime Fun Group of Companies, is pleased to announce the construction of an amusement ride park adjacent to the existing waterpark at Magnetic Hill.
“We believe that the Moncton area, and specifically Magnetic Hill, is a unique destination in Atlantic Canada for families,” said company President Mark Jelley. “These additions will complement existing attractions in the area and will help to attract more visitors overall. The Magnetic Hill Zoo and Magic Mountain Waterpark are already two of the most visited attractions in New Brunswick.” “Our company is pleased to be able to add these attractions to our park,” said General Manager John Jelley. “Some of these have been seen in this area before, and some will be entirely new to the area. The park will operate similarly to other ride parks with free admission to the grounds and a pay per ride option in addition to a bracelet option. While we are anticipating having some rides open later this summer, this is just the first phase and we are excited about the product that you will see develop over the next few years.”
Construction of Phase 1 has already begun and is scheduled to open mid-July 2015. It will see the addition of The Sky Flyer, Carousel, Krazy Kars, Red Baron, Convoy, Jumpin’ Star, Treehouse Playpark, and Rio Grande Train. It will also feature a new ticketing area, accessible washrooms, Old Fashioned Carnival games and the addition of a new food area including a second Beavertails location at Magic Mountain. Mark stated that “We are pleased to partner with Beavertails to provide another outlet for this Canadian culinary icon. It has proven to be one of our most popular treats and this location will be accessible to the public at our entrance without paying admission.”
Phase 2, scheduled to open mid-June 2016, will see the addition of The Waveswinger and 3-4 larger carnival rides. John commented that, “These types of rides will appeal to a wide age range.” Phase 3 will include an indoor amusement facility with laser tag, blacklight mini-golf, large arcade, party rooms and a Time Freak attraction that has not been seen in this area before. “This type of facility will extend our operating season and provide a new tourism draw throughout the year,” said John. The current plan has Phase 3 opening in 2017.
“We are pleased that the construction will contribute to the local economy and the new park will add year- round positions to our work force and over 30 to our seasonal team,” said Mark. The Maritime Fun Group, led by the Jelley, Dunville and Hickey families, is a group of companies that own and operate Magic Mountain in Moncton, NB as well as Burlington Amusement Park, Sandspit Amusement Park, and Shining Waters Family Fun Park on PEI. During peak season, the group employs approximately 400 Atlantic Canadians.
