Hip Hip Hooray! I love announcements about construction. The more cranes the merrier. This will be a welcomed addition to the Midtown market.

Downtown Atlanta street renamed for Ted Turner

Quote:
The Atlanta City Council voted late Monday to name a portion of Spring Street after Ted Turner, but not without complaints over the city’s process for renaming streets.

Council members voted 9-3 to designate the stretch of Spring Street between Whitehall Street and West Peachtree Street – near the CNN Center – in honor of the global cable network’s creator.
Anyone else offended by the fact that a man who is holding progress hostage in Downtown Atlanta by refusing to develop any of the numerous parking lots he maintains will have a section of the very street he is blighting named after him?

The entire block that contains his Ted's Montana Grill (and his rooftop penthouse), the lot across the street from Ted's next to the Tabernacle, and the lot between Nassau and Walton - and that's just what can be traced to him online. This is about half of the surface parking in Fairlie-Poplar.

He has publicly stated that he has no interest in developing those lots, even though others have stated interest.

I'm offended you would even pose the question. He's done a lot for this city. He's helped Atlanta to become what people would consider a major city.

Didn't I see a proposal to expand Centennial Olympic Park across COP Drive (partially) into those "vacant" lots?

Just saw on the ABC that GT obtained clearance to proceed with the Crum & Foster site development today, and confirmed that Portman will develop the $300M project with a projected 2018 opening!!

DRC Meeting Update:

The Peachtree and 17th proposal surprised me with the hotel/residential tower coming in at ~45 floors. The residential units are pretty large, 1500-5000 sq. ft., and overall it's a pretty nice project. I took a lot of pics and I'll post them within the next few days. They're pretty grainy, but hey, they'll give an idea.

There's only so much progress to go around and most of the attention in the core is going to Midtown right now. Downtown's time isn't here yet. That's not Ted Turner's fault; it's just the way things are working out. It's a safe bet that its time is coming though. I think the 20s will be very good to it.

I guess a better way to word my question would be: You don't think a highly desirable neighborhood would attract higher quality projects than an adjacent one that's much less desirable? You make it sound as if that person is insane for entertaining an idea that seems like common sense to me.

Excellent! I look forward to viewing pictures of this proposal. This is a wonderful location for such a project. Thanks for the update AtlantaMustang.

Lets look at the big picture. Atlanta is Atlanta. So whether you are Downtown to Perimeter, the overall picture is that it is Atlanta. Novare product of condos is essentially the same, be it Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead. The W Hotel, didn't change their quality of structure, because its Downtown Atlanta. Yes, the price point may vary, but there's no change in quality. If you read my statements, I made it clear that no one on hear is saying that Buckhead buildings or better than Midtown, even though Buckhead demands the most dollar in Atlanta.

It looks like 1389, 1401, and 1409 Peachtree.

https://goo.gl/maps/5AZ60

1389 is a three story, 42k sf office building with TSW, Vespucci's, Subway, and the recently relocated Sausalito's.
1401 is a four story, 86k sf office building.
1409 is a two story, 25k sf office building.
