Coming back from the airport the other day, and treated to a great skyline view. Roughly between the Greys Ferry and South St exits on 76, FMC appears as if it's straight ahead. When Dranoff's new tower and the CHOP tower is completed, the view from this area is really going to be something else. Makes up for the refineries visitors witness in South Philly. The infusion of modern glass buildings showcases this city's upswing.

The view coming up 76 from the airport will be spectacular, except for all those horrible billboards that are right in your face as you approach the city. Even if they just removed the last two, it would open up the view much better.

First understand the economic importance of these tracks before talking about removing them. I love the juxtapositioning of Phila's industrial infrastructure with all the urban renewal.

That is absolutely not happening. CSX needs those tracks to move goods to and from NYC and other places to the south. They are heavily used for a reason. Needless to say placing replacement tracks through a heavily developed urban area would be a very expensive and complicated proposition.

You may love it, but most people don't. Manufacturing, sure. Polluted air and water not so much. If Philadelphia is going to be considered a world class city the impression made on the trip from the airport will need to improve tremendously.

Removing the obnoxious billboards that block the view of downtown as you approach the city would be a good first step.
