Bit of an update on the new Falcons stadium. Gf took a few of these so hopefully their unedited quality is okay. Click for high res original. Honestly its crane porn.... lol[IMG] [/IMG]
They are all very good-- A successful competition if the winners are anything like the initial concepts-- BTW the vote is for the "People's Choice Award'-- the winning (to be built) designs will be chosen by a jury this week and unveiled at the National AIA Convention--

Dumb question.
Why are they using so many cranes on this job? Is there something about this particular construction process that requires many simultaneous cranes? Or are they just trying to move fast?
Either way they are cool to look at. Thanks for the photos, ATLksuGUY!

You pretty much answered it...they're trying to move fast with getting the forms up simultaneously for the various concrete pours. Also to note.... the pre-cast manufacturer - Metromont - has pretty much been continually pouring the precast stands since January of this year and doesn't have plans on stopping production until December of this year for the Falcons stadium alone. Then they will roll over production for the Braves stadium precast sections most of next year.

Cool. So do they fabricate the columns and risers on site, and then have the precast seating sections trucked in?

Quite a process.
The decking/risers are precast since that's more modular while most of the structural has been site-cast concrete (as illustrated in the images).
You'll see that the cranes will help when placing multiple precast pieces as well once they start coming on-site. Metromont did the GA Dome's precast stadium seating as well as many other stadiums across the country.
Btw, does anyone know what happened to the Integral student housing project on Auburn? Did they ever file permits? I thought would be a nice addition to the area especially since it's a boutique development and Atlanta desperately needs more of those 80-100 unit boutique type development and not all of these 300 unit mega block projects. That's why it seems cities like Seattle has so much development because they have a lot of smaller scale developments also.

Yes they did, has been ready to issue for some time meaning they just need to pay fees and its issued. Maybe their plans stalled
It's the new rumored name of the Braves, since they won't be playing in Atlanta anymore
This will take Atlanta back to its baseball roots: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Crackers

We loved those Crackers when I was growing up. In 1962 we battled it out against Jacksonville and took the championship. There were some great players on that team -- Tim McCarver, Mike Shannon and big Bob Sadowski throwing BBs.
