Not sure I am a fan of the logo, it looks like something out of the late 90's-early 2000's. I would have prefered something more uncluttered and simple (I can't say "vintage" but you get the idea)

Tim Hortons field looks great.

Just one question though. Did they just put all those ticat/ tim hortons banners up only to have to take them down in a month or two when the pan ams roll in? No sponsors are allowed and it will be called cibc pan am soccer stadium or something along those lines. Will the marquee tim hortons sign on the scoreboard as well as the signs at the entrance gates have to be covered up?

meh in the end this is all temporary. A for sure 3 years. But I would imagine the moose will be in a new building sooner than later within 5 years or so. Unless this is a complete success with the entire lower bowl filled 38 times a year

let me correct myself after listing to chevi and chipman talk, I'm dead Wrong. This is a long term commitment they want to make this work for years to come. Significant investments into the MTS centre for the AHL club

The Moose logo actually is from the mid-2000s... it started out as the third-jersey logo and by around 2005 became the full time logo. I think it's the best logo in the AHL, it's damn good. I'm glad that TNSE brought it back.

Oh and Both the MTS centre and Iceplex will see Significant investment to host the Moose. You may see alot of double headers.

Construction has already started on a permanent dressing room for the moose and zinger is over at the iceplex planning construction for the needs of the team there.

Thunderbay is going in a different direction (essentially the deal is dead) (chevi)

The Moose will be in Winnipeg on a permanent basis Chipman has always wanted a secondary team playing out of the MTS Centre. He looked at the success in Edmonton and Calgary with the WHL and this gave them the opportunity they had been looking for. He also stated that this was strictly a hockey operations decision not a business plan and Says they have been very fortunate so far to not have any costs involved with developing prospects since the move to St johns (meaning the club always made money) but is completely aware that it may not always be the case. He expects The club to contribute and not drain from the overall profitability of hockey in true north. The club also doesn't have to bring in the same amount of revenue to be profitable as it did the first time around hence the lower ticket prices.

Basically they are prepared for the club to lose money but expects it not to

I would expect the Moose to do reasonably well in Winnipeg. There are plenty of people who can't or won't buy Jets tickets... groups (e.g. kids' teams, school groups, community organizations) can't really access Jets tickets, and it's tough to bring the whole family to a game unless you're a STH as finding a bunch of seats together is difficult and cost is an obstacle too.

A lot of people refused to watch the old Moose on principle (NHL or bust, along with anger over the team being Vancouver's farm club) who might be drawn in now that the team is comprised of the Jets' prospects.

I could see the Moose drawing 5 to 6 thousand paying customers most nights, possibly more for bigger games.

TNSE says they're planning this for the long haul and I have no reason to doubt them. It'll ultimately be a similar dynamic along the lines of Calgary/Edmonton and their WHL teams.

Could you explain the part about anger over being Vancouver's farm club? Just curious what exactly the issue was. Abbotsford had a similar problem in that nobody wanted to support Calgary's farm team.

A lot of people took a perverse pride in not supporting the Moose even though they were ultimately Winnipeg's ticket back to the NHL. The reasons given were most commonly 1) I don't want to watch minor league hockey (fair enough, a lot of people were raised on the WHA/NHL Jets) and 2) I don't want to watch Vancouver's prospects. (The Jets and Canucks were divisional rivals for many years and there was a certain bitterness over the fact that the Moose players were being groomed for the Canucks.)

Issue 1 will still be present, obviously the AHL will hold a lot less mainstream appeal. Issue 2 will be obliterated, though. A lot of hockey uber-nerds (the kind who rattle off cap, corsi and fenwick numbers) who refused to watch the Canucks' prospects will be interested in scoping out the Jets up and comers.

It's really self explanatory you kind of answered your own question. Winnipeg was an NHL city in the Smythe division with the Vancouver Canucks. They lose an NHL team and then they are subject to being Vancouver's farm team? It would be like the person you hate at work the most becoming your boss

The difference to me was that Abbotsford had a nearby NHL team, whereas Winnipeg didn't. I understand not supporting minor league hockey, but I wasn't sure why Vancouver would be especially unacceptable. You guys explained it well though. I'm too young to have ever seen the original Winnipeg Jets play, so that thought just never crossed my mind. This is the first Winnipeg NHL team I've ever seen.

The moose were very well supported. Don't get me wrong they almost always led the AHL's attendance even today they would have been among the top sellers in the league. I think the moose will easily draw 8-9k the first season 5-7 of those being season ticket holders. It will probably taper off and sit around 4-6k after the honeymoon is over. Think about it this way their is a lot of family's or couples in Winnipeg that haven't seen pro hockey since 2011 due to low supply and high prices. A ton of Jets wait listers (8k) that may settle for the AHL while they wait for the call. Alot of die hard Jets fans that Can't get enough and couple that with casual game attenders I cant see why they cant sit middle of the pack in terms of attendance. The experience is gonna be so much better for the Moose fans this time around. It's a farm team for the pride team of the city, playing in more of an NHL caliber building (If that makes sense to you), Way more affordable ticket prices. The only downside to this is that 15,000 potential paying hockey fans are already paying big money for the jets and the moose wont be the Stars of Winnipeg's Winter sports scene this time around.

If it works in Calgary and Edmonton, it should work in Winnipeg. Comparable ticket prices and a Higher caliber product.

Both of those markets routinely bring in 5-6k on average a season in the dub.

I see the owners are saying this move is permanent because the thunder bay arena project fell through. I can see them going to thunder bay if the arena project actually gets shovel in the ground.

^That's too bad about Thunder Bay. Fort William Gardens is a decent old barn but not up to snuff these days, I suppose.

And, yes, despite the construction issues, THF has turned out nicely.
