The foreground is for a separate construction site. Took the pic from a Wendy's parking lot. Yes the building itself is finished though. For awhile it had an broadcast antenna on the roof too but they took it down. Also I seem to recall bad coloured LED lighting coming down from the crown at night. Not sure if they still turn it on or not.

Oh come now, from her humble beginnings attending Lauderdale School and then marrying a coalminer who later bought a farm on scruff, and never moving to a finer town than Castor all her life, she has quite the cultured taste.

To be fair to the carriage house inn, at least it has a decent lighting feature on the metal roofline. Changes colours and all that. I think it's the only substantial night lighting on a building south of Glenmore Trail.

I guess that's true Boris, but is it really worth lighting that tophat? At least they got rid of that fugly antenna though.

Macleod Trail is pretty much a solid 20km of ugly anyways. A nice building would out of place. Rules for being on Macleod:

a) has to have a combination of: cheap materials, wacky colours, awkward shapes and/or tacked-on features
b) must be surrounded on all sides by pavement, in addition to the setbacks from all surrounding roads.
c) must include (a) branded signage that lacks any sort of design coordination, and (b) a towering, freestanding sign* that includes all the stores and services in the area, located at the minimum setback from the roadway
d) optionally may include a third-party billboard courtesy of Pattison
e) places that get a lot of traffic must have fewer available parkings stalls -- conversely, places that get very little or sporadic traffic must have so many additional stalls that you could comfortably set up a circus on the remainder of the lot on any given night of the week.

*minimum of one blinding electronic sign per mile -- this sign must be so bright that the advertisement is burned into your corneas.

For me Centre Street by Chinook is the worst. If anyone is so inclined tour the entire thing from this point north to 58th ave.

Because nothing complements a historic warehouse district turned urban use area better than a suburban-to-the-core Denny's.

These are about a block SE of the Dennys. They wouldn't be bad if they weren't built in the early 2000s(!), weren't visible from the railtown trail, and didn't rely on those awful concrete columns as their defining exterior feature.

Look about 10 pages back and you'll see those and the generally awful north hill mall. The worst part is that they are basically a TOD location wise but geared entirely for car travel. In general I think the accessibility is less about the train than it is about the mall and the Sears for all the old geezers that love to walk around it like zombies from Dawn of the Dead.

Funny thing is I remember them being decently well received when they were built. It goes to show how much has changed in terms of what we expect.

Right, I must have missed them earlier. I just found them randomly while perusing on Google. I did see the mall though. That bright blue Petcetera is something.
