BTW the one with the motifs that has numbers for years doesn't look that bad really. Nice attempt at beautification. Or making it less ugly.

Not in Gatineau. For Ottawa I looked it up and it seems there is one at the University of Ottawa in the University Centre. Not a place that many non-students go.

I like Première Moisson too. A lot of grocery stores in Gatineau have their breads.

I usually buy my baked goods from local independents like Fidélice, La Balade des Douceurs and Philouze, though...

Yeah I like it too. It is hideous for most other purposes but it's fascinating that it exists. It would definitely make a great fashion/IT area.

The only aesthetic offense those Chabanel street warehouses give off is that they lack any exterior flourish and that the ground floor is proportionally too short.

Apart from that, they offer something extremely rare in any Canadian city: a consistent, level midrise streetwall. Not a streetwall of wood-framed, alternating two to three storey narrow commercial blocks (although those are good, too), but a muscular 7 storey wall that comes flush to the sidewalk and is uniformly cut 100 feet off the ground. There's something kind of pleasing in that form. If they had cornices and caryatids, you'd think you were in St. Petersburg (Russia, not Florida).

Count me in as someone who doesn't think this area is terrible, either. The buildings may not win any awards, but they're not bad and have decent street interaction.

I'm far more Glebe than hipster but I've gone over a couple of times to try it out. Unfortunately it was too crowded both times to get a seat so I've still not sampled the wares.

Sort of. The main entrance was on the opposite corner and had even less windows. The backside had a podium with no windows. Also up close the stucco is already buckling and cracking in places from water damage. They definitely built it quick and cheap. Definition of a cheap stucco box. Also worth noting it's in an industrial park at the edge of Red Deer.

Drove down Gaetz in Red Deer (the main drag). I nearly got into an accident looking at all the ugliness. Everything from a place called the liquor hutch to 2 identical 'cowboy motel' buildings across the highway from one another.
